| There is a lot of churn at central office, many of the old guard have left or are leaving... I think we'll see a big turn over this year! |
| Good. |
| and when do we find out which teachers will not return for next school year? |
First day of school. |
Depends on your school. My daughter's school announces it at the end of the year along with information on the replacement (if one has been found already). Some teachers quit over the summer. At my school (I'm a teacher), most people are afraid to say they're quitting because they may not find something else over the summer. |
Definitely varies by school. I worked in two schools in DCPS. At the first one, the principal would usually wait to announce until she had hired a replacement, but in general it was very transparent. The second school it was treated like a state secret and people would think that their kid was going to be in a specific teacher's class until school started the following year--when that teacher had submitted their resignation in March. |
I'm more concerned about principals, unfortunately it's at teachers discretion if they don't come back over the summer. |
| As a teacher, it all depends. Rarely do teachers just quit over summer without any warning. Most teachers know now if they are staying, going, or even looking. Best policy is to ask, but don't be offended if you don't get the answer you are looking for. Imagine for a minute you were being asked these kinds of questions at your job. How would you feel and react? |
