| My DD has been accepted ED. Mid year report send...and thats it!. She barely studys, plays video games and grades slipped. we are looking at a couple of D and possible F for the third quarter. Can university recline the offer??? |
|
Yes. They probably wouldn’t based on quarterly grades. But, might based on final grades if there is a substantial drop off. They can do other things like have her start out on academic
Probation as well. |
| So they contact the school after the mid year report send? How would they know? |
|
I assume you mean "rescind."
If her final grades are Cs or worse, she may get a nastygram from the school after graduation (school will send her final transcript). They do expect her to pass her senior classes with decent grades and could start her off on academic probation her freshman year. Tell her to pull herself together and aim for a B-. |
| The word is rescind, and yes they can. It usually says that in the acceptance letter. |
| Errrr...auto correct!! Its rescind!! |
| Yes, they can rescind. I got a nastygram from my university after my grades slipped at the end of my senior year. I was so ashamed of that letter, but thankfully they didn't rescind the offer. |
| Autocorrect twice? Doubtful. Of course the college can rescind the acceptance. And in this case it would seem to be the appropriate response. |
Don't you need to send a final transcript to prove you've graduated from high school? I don't think they'd know until then. |
|
Back in my day, if you were really slacking off, your guidance counselor might write to the college keep it informed. And you might get a notice from the college that this was not acceptable.
I don't know if privacy issues have changed that. |

"we are looking at a couple of D and possible F for the third quarter."
Is your DD at a public or private HS? How selective is the ED college? Over the years we have learned that it is much more difficult to get Ds and/or Fs than you would think, IF your DC tries the last 2 or 3 weeks of the quarter. Many teachers will allow homework/project make up and/or quizzes to be retaken and a solid C on the second test of the quarter goes a long way. As the missing assignment grades are replaced with even very late grades, the average can climb quickly. |
+1 They can and do rescind admissions offers and/or scholarship money. |
| Absolutely. Read the offer letter — it comes with contingencies. |
| If she's ED, contact the school NOW and see what they say. She might be able to get an application in to a rolling school if they rescind. |
Worst advice yet. But the day is young. |
