Why do whites women become fitness obsessed as they older?

A white girlfriend I have is gorgeous. Hottest girl in our group. She turned 30 last year and was on a health/fitness kick she’s whittled down from a size 4 to 0 and looks very muscular and thin. Face looks gaunt. Youthful glow gone. Why why? She still had so many good years left!

it's not white women, it's a subset of american whites. it basically serves as a substitute for religion and has a lot in common with puritanism.

Haha - I'm 62 and I thought you were talking about women in their 50s and 60s!

Some possibilities:

1) Maybe your friend has an unhealthy attitude towards exercise and is overdoing it to the detriment of her emotional life. She needs to feel control and obsession about exercise is one way she tries to do that.

2) Maybe your friend has a health attitude towards exercise and it makes her feel great everyday and she doesn't care what she looks like.

Me, I adhere to #2 and I work out 5 days a week. I feel fantastic and I don't give a fig what people think about the way I look. Feeling good is more important.

White men don't like curves.

Please, 30 isn’t older!

OP writes like she's 16. 30 seemed older when I was 16.

Why do you gossip about your friends?

I do!

Because at a certain age you have to choose between your face and your ass and white people wrinkle more easily anyway. (I choose my face.)

It's the ever increasing obsession with vanity and search for that fountain of youth in this country. An aging woman has become almost demonized. And this is more a demonization by women against women in this country.

Older women in some other countries (please note I said some) don't grapple *as much* with this as women here. Yes, all women may mourn their youth for a bit, but here it's taken to the next level. Forget mourning, do everything possible to fight the inevitable. The 'stages of life' are more normalized and accepted in most other countries. Here they are not.

Older white women in this country succumb to this more easily but I'm not sure why this is moreso than with other non-white women in this country who feel the same level of this push for youth. Perhaps, the communities they belong to or the friends they surround themselves with have a different group mentality than the average white woman.

It's not that non-white women are not interested in being healthy and slim, but it's usually not to the degree that white women aspire to. Toned but soft is usually their goal, but here that is looked down upon as weak ( or as white women like to say- skinny fat ).

It seems here, an older white woman is ignored, often times tossed aside by her husband for a younger woman. In some cultures around the world, the older women are looked at as sources of wisdom or inner strength and the tie that binds the community.

I think white women are more upset if their husband cheats, more likely to divorce him. In most of the rest of the world, the wife kind of expects the husband to cheat. As long as he is a good father and leaves her access to his earnings, she shrugs. So, since she doesn't care if he cheats, she doesn't need to do everything possible to please him.

wtf? where is this coming from? not true at all. if anything, it seems like there's more cheating among upper middle class white than other groups.

30?! That's older? I'm crying.

When I get too old, my plan is to move to a culture where women aren't shat upon for aging, rather, they're revered for their continued good health and long life. Whereas, if you stay in the states, you're treated like you deserve a public flogging for every wrinkle and lb.
