| Does anyone have any recommendations for a hotel in London to stay with our kids (oldest is 7). We would like to keep it under $800/night. |
| We stayed at The Chesterfield Mayfair with our kids. Loved it. |
| Park Plaza Westminster Bridge |
| My family of 4 stayed at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge last year. http://www.parkplaza.com/westminster We love it! I woke up every morning looking at Big Ben. The location was great. We paid about $400 a night with buffet breakfast included. They were running a special for families last summer. I have stayed in various hotels throughout the years in London. However, the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge has been my family's favorite. Their rooms are bigger than the average (small) rooms that you get in London. The location was great because we could walk to Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus, Westminster Abbey, London Eye, Westminster Abbey, and other places. The hotel is near the South Bank http://www.southbanklondon.com where there are tons of restaurants, shops, and other venues. Also, if your children want to blow off some steam there is a playground in Jubilee Gardens along the South Bank which is a five minute walk from the hotel. |
| We stayed at the May Fair hotel last time we were in London and were surprised at how large the rooms were. Very nice hotel in a great location. |
| Check air b n b - great apartments on there in prime locations - was checking for our trip in june |

I just spit out my water...seriously OP? A quick Expedia or Travelocity search and you can stay at any "nice" hotel in London for $800/night. But you probably know that already.
I guess I just shake my head at why, for a family trip, anyone would you want to spend that much on hotel in a city where you'll just be hitting the pillow at night and leaving early to see the sites! It doesn't need to be a resort on a beach. You aren't planning to lounge around having lazy morning with room service or romantic evenings with wine and champagne in your silk robe. So honestly, any Marriott near a tube station or even the Premier Inn at Trafalgar Square (includes beds with clean sheets and a buffet breakfast) will give you everything you need for accommodations for under $300/night. Then you can use the extra $500 you just saved to have some cool experiences with the kids! Tea on the Tea Bus or fancy at Fortnum & Mason, a spree at Hamley's toy store!, a private guided tour of the Tower of London, splurge on a souvenir from Harrod's, an outing to the Harry Potter Studio Tour. Literally anything but pay hundreds too much for a "spacious" hotel room you don't need and that looks the same as any hotel room you can get in Anywhere, USA. |
Ugh, what a killjoy. Pity the poor people who have to travel with you. |
Huh. Killjoy? I read that post and thought "no way I'm wasting money on crap like a toy store outing or a tea bus" in a city is filled with culture and history! Better stick with old killjoy up there than go with me then. |
OP here. We like nice hotels. We'll have money to do other things, too. Thanks for the recommendations from those who gave the. I will check them out. |

I have young kids and always like staying on Hyde Park especially in months where the weather is better. It's great for the kids.
Two hotels, Mandarin Oriental (more expensive) and Park Tower (less expensive) are particularly great location for us. They are very close to the Knightsbridge tube stop and Harrods. We love going to Harrods food hall (which is amazing--unlike anything in the US or in the world--if you've never been) which is perfect for grabbing food with the family (everyone gets to choose exactly what they want) and then take it to the park to eat. |

OP, if you like nice hotels, then I recommend the following:
London Hilton on Park Lane Grosvenor House, A JW Marriott Hotel Le Meridien Piccadilly Park Plaza Westminster Bridge London Ritz W London Leicester Square London Marriott Hotel County Hall St. James Court, A Taj Hotel The Berkeley Intercontinental London Park Lane Check some of the Hilton and Marriott chains because they often times have family discounts and special offers for families. Also, you can use AAA points towards your room price. The Grosvenor House by JW Marriott is absolutely phenomenal! However, you may get a better deal at the London Hilton Park Lane just down the street. The Park Plaza Westminster Bridge and the London Marriott Hotel County Hall will offer the best bang for your buck though. Have fun in London! |
I have stayed at that Marriott, but I didn't think that they had rooms that accommodated a family (and I don't want 2 separate rooms). Thanks for the other recommendations, I will check them out. |
