I guess I just shake my head at why, for a family trip, anyone would you want to spend that much on hotel in a city where you'll just be hitting the pillow at night and leaving early to see the sites! It doesn't need to be a resort on a beach. You aren't planning to lounge around having lazy morning with room service or romantic evenings with wine and champagne in your silk robe. So honestly, any Marriott near a tube station or even the Premier Inn at Trafalgar Square (includes beds with clean sheets and a buffet breakfast) will give you everything you need for accommodations for under $300/night. Then you can use the extra $500 you just saved to have some cool experiences with the kids! Tea on the Tea Bus or fancy at Fortnum & Mason, a spree at Hamley's toy store!, a private guided tour of the Tower of London, splurge on a souvenir from Harrod's, an outing to the Harry Potter Studio Tour. Literally anything but pay hundreds too much for a "spacious" hotel room you don't need and that looks the same as any hotel room you can get in Anywhere, USA.
