| Anyone else anxiously awaiting UCLA results this Friday PM? |
| Many of the highest stat people waitlisted per CC website. Lower stat people admitted. Go figure. |
|
My child got in. We are very surprised as he was the only admit from his large public school. 4.2GPA, great SAT, varsity athlete and student leader. He did have really good essays that discussed his learning in his school and how that intersected with this jobs and planned program of study in college.

that sounds dull |
Who cares, he got in! Congrats. |
| My DC was accepted at UCLA too. I think it's easier OOS, especially east-coast. |
| What does OOS mean? |
Studying in college is ‘dull’? What do you think the goal of college IS exactly? |

"He did have really good essays that discussed his learning in his school and how that intersected with this jobs and planned program of study in college.
that sounds dull" Yes, it really does. So if he really managed to write an essay that didn't come across as dull, THAT IS WHY HE GOT IN. Our DS pulled this off. He got into two of his 3 reach schools but didn't get into all of his matches. A great essay is in the eyes of the beholder. When we visited, while some admissions people were better at hiding it than others, you could tell they were all buzzing about his essay. It seemed like they all wanted to know how a future engineer with straight Bs in English had written that essay. Of course, a college essay is totally different from an English assignment that is dashed off on the bus on the way to a game. |
| We haven't visited the campus, but my DC is excited about warm weather. |
| $63,000/year for UCLA. That’s steep. I don’t think I would pay that. |
UCLA gives good financial aid/merit packages - not sure that OP is in that boat, but sticker price is not usually actual price. |
Since when? I heard they're pretty stingy, as are all of the UCs for OOS. |
Actually the truth is the opposite of what you stated. They even pulled need based fin aid for OOS students: http://dailybruin.com/2016/01/29/out-of-state-and-out-of-pocket/ |
