My hair is naturally a dark, mousy blonde. When I was a very young child, it was reddish. It definitely has natural warmth. For a few years recently, I was having it colored with a base color that was a pretty strawberry blonde, and then highlights. It looked great with my skin tone but I just became tired of it, and as I got older, it seemed that this reddish tone washed me out and made me look older. It would also become really
brassy. Recently, I changed hair salons because I moved and I started having my hair colored at this “organic” salon. I asked for a change: I wanted a cooler, almost ash blonde color. I’ve had this in the past and it looks great on me. So she gave me the color I wanted and it looked gorgeous for a week. I only washed it once, with a very gentle shampoo, but after a week, all of the warmth returned with a vengeance. After four weeks, it was almost orange. I went back to the salon and had a toner done. That helped for a few days but soon it was orangeish again. At my next appointment I told her I was unhappy and she told me that we might be “fighting nature” and it might not be possible for me to have a pretty, cool toned dark blonde. She once again colored it and once more, it looked good for a week and then turned brassy. I’m giving this salon one more shot this weekend but seeing a different colorist. Do you think they need to do something different to give me the color I want? Is it possibly true that my hair is now doomed to be very warm? Is the “organic” hair color not as effective? I’m so frustrated about spending all this money and being unhappy with the result. |
Yeah, you need real chemicals. Find a salon that uses a good brand of hair color. |
The brands they use for color are Original Mineral and Organic Color Systems. Are those not as good as more traditional brands? I wouldn’t think there’d be much of a difference in performance—who wants ineffective hair color? |
Your experience proves it isn’t effective, why continue to waste your time and money? Just go to a conventional hair salon, |
Try brass of shampoo?
When you get your hair colored tell them to use blue as well. |
+1 Whatever they’re using isn’t working and they’re not willing to admit it. Take your money elsewhere. I was going to a place close to my home and my hair would start off too dark, and then fade. I switched salons and my hair has looked great every time, for YEARS, even though I use whoever is available when I call for my appointment. I think they use framesi or Schwarzkopf hair color, that’s what the robes say anyway. |
Fanola No Yellow shampoo. Swear by it. |
I had my hair done a gorgeous red a few years ago and last time went to my same stylist for the same color. After she blowdried I could tell it was definitely NOT the same color, orange undertone versus a violet but I'm not overly picky so I left. It was evening when I left the salon so the next day when I saw it in natural light i was HORRIFIED at how orange it was at the roots. I have 2 small kids and no time to go back to have her fix it so I stopped at Ulta and got this shampoo https://www.ulta.com/total-results-brass-off-shampoo?productId=xlsImpprod15421026&sku=2505528&cmpid=PS_Non!google!Product_Listing_Ads&cagpspn=pla&CATCI=pla-195674283150&CAAGID=31031361737&CAWELAID=330000200001067328&catargetid=330000200000806444&cadevice=c&gclid=EAIaIQobChMItvOfu7bu2QIVClcNCh3wLQh8EAQYASABEgLutvD_BwE and used it pretty religiously for about a week. It really toned it down.
But I also agree, the organic colors are probably not the best for you, go back to regular color. |
I agree with what others have been saying -- it seems that this is an ineffective salon and not some sort of random issue with your hair. i also highly recommend purple shampoo to help with brassiness but you need a new colorist. Shelby Anderson Beauty is incredible, esp for blonde. google her, check out her insta -- fair warning, it's hard to get an appt. |
