Planning a Disney trip for my immediate family, in-laws, and parents. 8 adults, 3 kids (3, 7, and 9 years old). 3 year old has a really difficult time falling asleep in the same room as other people (she just gets way too pumped up), which is my main concern. The 7 and 9 year olds are brothers who can share a bed.
how would you handle rooms for this group? the villas seem like they can't handle a group of this size. |
| 3 rooms - one for each grandparent, one for family. Have 7 and 9 year old hang out with grandparents or one parent while 3 year old falls asleep with a parent. |
sorry, I should've been clearer. the group is: DH, me, and our 3 year old BIL, SIL, and their 2 boys My parents DH's parents |

I looked at the Bonnett Creek Wyndham for our very similar group - they had some 4 bedrooms.

was it a bummer not being on property? we really want to be on property, but the Disney offerings for groups of this size are stupidly expensive, unless we just split up. |
well, we haven't done it yet - and i haven't booked it, either, lol. But I looked at it. We ultimately went skiing over the FCPS January break instead. I still have it filed away for a future idea.
i have done disney both on and off property - there are pros and cons to both. You could consider calling disney directly and / or a Disney travel agent to see if you'd be able to get 4 rooms near each other - they might be able to work with you. |
yeah, that's what I'm starting to think will be easier than dealing with the villas. |
Four rooms. Request adjoining and hope that at least 1 set of rooms gets it - so you can put your 3 yo to bed and hang out with your parents or inlaws until she/he falls asleep. Thats if you are determined to be on property. What would I do? A 4-6br rental home with private pool and hot tub in Windsor Hills for about $2500 total for an entire week. Cheaper and way more comfortable. |

Honestly, I would look at DVC and see if there is any availability for a villa. Read this to learn more: https://www.mousesavers.com/davids-vacation-club-rentals/
If not, I vote for Bonnet Creek or some other nearby condo/TH community. My big reasoning is getting access to a kitchen! With that big of a group, you can save a ton of $$$ just getting some basics - breakfast cereals and yogurt, juice boxes, bread, pb and j , etc. Plus you have space to all gather together and order a pizza one night. If you are spread over multiple hotel rooms, then you each only have a tiny mini fridge. |

Rental home PP here. Here is an example of what I am talking about. Tons of them on VRBO/Homeaway. Once you try this, you won't want to do it any other way.

Wyndham Bonnet Creek was great. There are a bunch of pools, lazy river, restaurants, etc. And it's really close to the parks. They do have transportation but we just drove. I didn't miss being on property.
Disclosure: I have never stayed on property. |
The off property option sounds really appealing, TBH. I think most of the group really wants to be on property, to have the full, immersive experience, but I wonder if I can convince them, given the comfort aspect (and the price!) I might contact DVC first and see what they can do. If we're not satisfied with that, we might go off property. |

One option could be 2 of the two bedroom villas--you, your dh and daughter, and your parents in one of them, and the ILs in the other.
The ones at OKW and Saratoga springs aren't as expensive as the other resort ones. Request in the same area/building, but realize that is just a request and you might not get it. |
Ok, 4 rooms. What is the issue. Get two adjoining rooms. You do adjoining with your parents, they do adjoining with their parents. |
The complication is that my 3 year old really needs her own space to fall asleep. It's a pain, but she will *not* fall asleep in the same room as us. Normally we deal with it by getting a 1 bedroom suite (like at a residence inn or something) and putting her in the living room, but the 1 bedroom suites are so expensive at Disney. |
