Malfunction at Ohio fertility lab

That is so horrible. Why weren’t they regularly checking the temp? Wasn’t there an alarm?
You do wonder if it was 1) some workers mistake 2) someone doing that intentionally (in which case it’s likemurderjng 500 potential babies).

They had an alarm but no one was monitoring it over the weekend maybe? That’s useless.
And they are refeeezing everything? Hmmm

I just read about it. As a person who has embryos growing I can imagine the devastating impact this will have on some people. Awful.

What's the point of refreezing? How can the patients have any confidence in the eggs/embryos now?

I can see lawsuits and more lawsuits.

Can you imagine if this happen at Shady Grove Fertility??

My husband is the contact person for his lab when certain freezers get to unacceptable temps. His cell will ring at all hours notifying him of a malfunction with the freezer. I would like to assume that these freezers had such alarm and they also had a contact person. Did the alarm malfunction as well? If that's the case then I suppose there is nothing anyone could have done. Sad, but sometimes shit happens.

Now if someone dropped the ball, that's a completely different story.

They have back up generators. As should have had this clinic in Ohio.
I know about SGF because my surgery schedule got bumped once by several hours due to Towson location losing power. They had to operate in Rockville because the facility was on back up generators overnight from the day before.

G-d this is so messed up. I really really hope it’s not as bad as it sounds.

I guess their point is maybe some things might not have thawed? Otherwise, refreezing will just make things funky.

Maybe the contact person didn’t check his phone all weekend or something. That would be a problem.

Absolutely. I would sue their pants off. I can’t believe this.

My buddy is one of the families that lost her two remaining embryos. She has not yet had a take home baby. They’ve offered for to store her next ones for free if they’re able to get any more. She’s taking it surprisingly well.
