| We're going to Pittsburgh (for the first time) for spring break. We've driven the 68 route to other destinations, have never done the 76 route. Is there a good stopping point about halfway on either? For food or kids' activities. Thanks. |

I wouldn't call it "good" but the logical stopping place is Breezewood, PA. Tons of food and not much else. It is almost exactly halfway.
Somerset has Seven Springs Resort. Bedford has the Omni Bedford Springs Resort. Those are two other options. |
| We like Hagerstown because there's a Sheetz and the outlet is nice. |
|
The truck stop town of Breezewood is where 70 ends and 76 begins - it is roughly half way. We grab fast food there and move on. There are rest stops all along the PA Turnpike with food, bathrooms, dog runs, etc.
Once we went off the path and had a nice long lunch at Bedford Springs Resort, just for the hell of it. |
| Breezewood is traditional. You have to get off the highway anyway. There's a Bob Evans where the kids can wander the gift shop, but not much else in the way of activities. |
| How old are the kids? My little kids love the indoor play area at the Bedford Burger King, of all things. You could also look into Old Bedford Village, but I don't know if it's open before summer. Jon Benet Tavern is kind of a cool place to eat. |
| OP here. We've eaten at Jean Benet before on a trip to Bedford Springs. It was actually play areas or parks that I was thinking about so the Burger King with the play place sounds good. I should also look at the McDonalds website for play areas. Thanks. |
Hagerstown McDonalds has a play place |
| Falling Water. A little out of the way but worth it! |
Agree. Also Ohiopyle - Cucumber Falls. Such a beautiful area with a couple of cute places for lunch or ice cream. |
| It's always Breezewood for us too. There's a Dairy Queen there...mmm...blizzards. |

I'm the OP of this post:
http://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/645036.page#10972324 My grandmother lives in Pittsburgh so we do the drive 1-2x a year. I'll say the best stop we ever did was over this winter break, when we left her house a little before 8am, then skiied from 10am-3pm at Seven Springs - then drove home. We plan to do that again next winter! One year we got forced off the road due to a snow storm, and we stayed over night at Omni Bedford and enjoyed it. Otherwise we usually stop for food in Cumberland, MD or Breezewood, and never get anything good! |
With kids? Don't think so. |
