It's a thought. Instead of training and arming teachers.
Of course they'd have to be pretty big to house middle school and high schools students. Can you really justify a shelter that size when classrooms are already overfull?

Just stop. This is absurd. Schools are still the safest place for kids to be. No shelters are needed.
However, increasing our budget for more books in our classroom library would be most welcome. —Public school educator since 1991 |

+1. Textbooks and a decent sized whiteboard. A reliable, up to date laptop would be really nice. I barely have enough room in my class for my students as it is. Sorry, there isn’t space for a shelter. |
|
No !!! There needs to be bullet proof rooms with automatic closing doors, armed teachers and administrators, metal detectors at the doors, bomb sniffing dogs in every classroom, each kid receives a flak jacket , bullet proof helmets and shields, bomb shelters with a few weeks worth of food for every two classrooms and regular on site tactical ‘get the shooters’ and shelter in place trainingfor the kids . It’s a school after all.

| I'm an elementary teacher and I actually like this idea. |
| I saw this thing in a video on Facebook. I will say the video mentioned they can withstand a category 5 hurricane, category 4 tornado, and category 9 earthquake, so they have some other merits aside from bullet prevention. I'm all for a solution like this with a "one size fits most" mentality for mother nature and crazies with weapons. |
| The last thing I want in my classroom is something that messes up my sightlines to this degree. Giving kids places to hide is just asking for trouble. |

How about we enact reasonable gun control instead? Which had been proven effective in almost every other country on the planet?
Are we going to have these in offices? Grocery stores? Movie theaters? Nightclubs? Restaurants? |
| Not one intelligent person who can understand facts thinks arming teachers is a good idea. |
| How about we get rid of guns. |
| This is a joke, right? |
|
What's the door on that thing? Bulletproof glass?
Cool that is hurricane and tornado proof, too. But... how much would this cost? cameras in each room? |
FFS, this is the only real answer. |
Agreed. This whole thing is utter insanity. We just had a thread complaining that there aren't textbooks in our classrooms. Suddenly we'll find the money for guns, ammo, training and shelters? What the hell is wrong with our country?!?!? |
