| My DD rejected the normal sports paths like soccer when she was younger. She did dance for awhile. Now she wants to be on a team of some sort. Not looking for anything competitive -- just the team experience. She's not strong in hand-eye coordination so thinking not a ball sport. She's thin and can run so I think cross country would be an option but I think she's interested in more of a game. Any suggestions on something fun, not too competitive? |

Triathlon training with other kids
Track and cross country Ultimate frisbee Some kind of adventure club Cheerleading ...and I’m out. |
| Fencing! Not quite a team sport, but plenty of interaction among the kids during classes. |

Track
Summer swim team Volleyball |
| It depends on how good your cross country team and how serious it's taken out here but where I grew up cross country was pretty grueling and demanding and team members were expected to practice on their own/run on their own outside of practices. |

Girls on the Run goes up to 8th grade, though I don't know how far it goes in this area.

| Where are you located? Arlington has a robust frisbee contingent. |

Field hockey!
Dd had several non sporty friends who made the field hockey team freshman year at our FCPS HS without ever playing before. There are youth leagues in the area too. |
| Does she like to skate? Synchronized skating |

Martial arts. You train as a group, and you move through the belt levels. There's a sense of accomplishment and a whole philosophy of treating yourself and others with respect.
My daughters aren't super sports oriented but do Tae Kwon Do. My 13-year-old DD had to complete a physical challenge the other day that included 30 push-ups, 30 sit-ups, 30 burpees, 30 squats and 30 scissor kicks to qualify for her next belt. My DDs love it, and are more confident, too. They will have a powerful roundhouse kick and other self defense moves in reserve if they ever need to use them in an emergency someday. I recommend martial arts. |

Chess
Dungeons & Dragons Cheer squad Synch swim But why does she have to do a sport? Some kids NEVER do organized sports and they're perfectly fine. |

If she has some dance background, maybe Irish dance?
They compete as individuals but also as a team in dances with 16 or 24 or more dancers. Lots of camaraderie, and you don't have to be Irish. |
| Sailing? Crew? |
| Poms at a lot of high schools seem to act like a team, entering in competitions, etc. Poms seem to have more dance. They seem to be a really close group. Maybe there are some junior level groups around. |
What is poms? I'm guessing you're not from around here. |
