I have very fair skin. With all of the comments in the recent post about staying out of the sun to maintain beauty, what’s the best thing to do if you have fair skin? I wear sunscreen and stay out of the sun, but then in the summer my legs look super pale... it seems people with some color/slightly tan look better.
Has anyone tried spray tanning? I don’t want to look very tan or else I’d look ridiculous! |
Who cares if your legs are pale? What's the big deal?
You do you. |
I tried it. Spray tan rubbed off on my clothes and furniture. Not good. You’re better off with those lotions that gradually add a little bit of color over time. |
No. You should live in your own lovely skin. Yes, you would look ridiculous with a spray tan (psst, everybody does). |
I agree with pp - own it. Spray tans look fake and come off on everything. And smell.
Choose colors that enhance the beauty of your skin. I have a skin color my kids call gray. Lol. I wish it had a richer pink undertone or yellow or something, but it doesn’t. Life goes on. |
If you do it, get some tips from someone you know whose done it before. I'd try the kind where someone sprays you (not in a booth). It's not permanent so if you don't like it, it'll fade away.
I know several people who are pretty fair who do this. They don't try to look like a bronzed goddess, but just to add a little color because they like the way it looks. You just don't want the darkest setting, especially the first time. Also, let it set for 8 hours or so before bathing. Then rinse off so it doesn't get all over your sheets. |
OP here, thanks for the encouragement ![]() But I just think my legs/arms look blinding when I wear dresses, ha. It’s funny how the typical beauty standard in the US is to be tan, yet it ages people more quickly. |
I'm super pale and I look great ![]() I actually look a lot better than my tanned friends. I would still look great tan, sure, but I look even better for having protected my skin from the sun for most of my life. Yeah, I'm vain. But I never, ever feel self-conscious of my pale skin. |
I would just own your fair skin, OP. Spraying a ton of chemicals on your skin can't be healthy, and hardly seems worth it. |
I'll admit it. I am pretty diligent about limiting sun exposure to my face, chest, & back, but I will let my arms & legs get some color.
But back to your question, don't bother with spray tan. I'm fair-ish with oily skin and turned orange (even with an "orange-proof" product), same thing happens with some foundations, it is a chemical reaction. The Trump look wasn't a good one for me - not that it is for him either ![]() |
I have South Asian ancestry and women from my country would kill to have your skin tone. |
OP, I totally get it. I am from a white, white, white Irish-American family. We all hate our white skin, too. But one time I visited Ireland, and I felt like, "Oh my gosh, I am completely surrounded by people who look just like me!" and it was such an astonishing feeling. Yes, in this area we are surrounded by a lot of people with tanner natural skin color: Asians, Hispanics, etc. I was always longing to have a naturally "tan" look on my legs like my friend whose mom was from Peru. Sigh, what can ya do? "The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence," ya know?

Yes, it's like curly hair vs. straight...
I've "embraced the pale" - I not only don't try to tan but actually cannot get tan even if I try. I'm just cooking myself to beet lobster red. Why bother? |
. You don't. Which is why this thread is about **spray** tans. Yes or no? Good idea or not, spray tan will never cause a sunburn |
Yes, try it at least once, but make sure you do an airbrush tan with a trained technician and not some cheap spray tan booth a la Ross from Friends. Airbrush tans offer various options for customization so that the tan looks natural and not orange. |
