Fair skin - should I spray tan?

Anonymous
Same struggle OP. Stay away from any lotion you can buy at the drugstore— they all smell and rub off. Maybe the kind you get sprayed on by a technician is better... i never tried it because I ended up marrying a Korean guy who looks at me like I have three heads if I express any dissatisfaction with my pasty ass skin. All their skincare is all about whitening and brightening. So I’ve learned to embrace it lol. I still don’t really ever wear shorts or short skirts, even though I’m quite thin, because I just can’t get over my mental block about exposing my pasty white thighs.

I also have incredibly fair skin, I mean, very very pale. Use a good blush (tarte gel and creams look better than powder) to give yourself color. Most spray tans and bronzers just end up looking dirty. Also, try this jergens cream, it evens out skin tone and makes your legs look less ghost like. http://www.jergens.com/products/daily-moisturizers/bb-body-perfecting-skin-cream.aspx

Please don't spray tan. Be happy in the skin you're in.

all these people that say it looks fake or dirty either have never actually spray tanned or had bad tans done

St Tropez tan items are great and you can do them at home.

Before I go on vacation I always get a nice professional spray. You can decide on colors, etc and get an all natural look with just minimal color.

Tans are low class.

I am the previous poster who mentioned the jergens and the looking dirty. If you do want a good spray tan for a super pale person, go to Ninotch in Bethesda. They are amazing, but it’s hard to avoid the patchiness (which is what I should have said instead of dirty) as it fades.

The people who say don't do it, like the other PP said, have never had a good, professional airbrush tan done.

I'm very fair, I've gotten spray tans before, and I always ask for the absolute lightest shade available. Afterwards I look fabulous - for me. To everyone else, I still look pale. So NO ONE would know that I had a spray tan! Even my family thought I just caught some sun. I loved it.

I'm so fair skinned and have done it a couple if times. It is not as easy to feel great about very light skin as posters think. Those who would never mock other skin tones feel free to comment negatively when you are very white, even my doctor. I liked the spray tan but my family thought I looked ridiculous. The same family who holds their arms next to mine and tells me you are soooo pale.

Not OP but love this.

How did you find a good place- word of mouth/yelp/trial & error?

The trick is to not have it done on your face. I do the lightest shade, and focus the coverage on my legs and then lighter as it goes up my body.

I love the way it looks on day 1 and day 2 of vacation, but then I'm a dirty, splotchy mess by day 3. I have to remind myself of this before every vacation because the temptation is so strong! But it's just not worth it.

Anonymous wrote:Yes, try it at least once, but make sure you do an airbrush tan with a trained technician and not some cheap spray tan booth a la Ross from Friends. Airbrush tans offer various options for customization so that the tan looks natural and not orange.

But that is kind of the point. When you are ... melatonin challenged, no tan looks natural because you don't have skin that is capable of being tan.

Unless you’re so melanin challenged as to have albinism, even pale people will tan (relatively) with enough sun exposure.
