I would like to buy a treadmill for my basement and not sure where to start. I went to gym source today and they were all 2k plus. I would like to use it for walking and light running.
Any recommendations? |

ProForm PFTL59515 Performance 400i Treadmill
I’ve been happy with this one. Got it on amazon for $500 or so free prime shipping too! I run on it about once a week so not heavy use but it works well for me. I’m 5’5 and think that if I was a lot taller, the belt might be a little short for running but for me it is perfect. |
I bought a less than $200 Weslo folding treadmill. I think it was amazons first choice at that time- bought at Walmart.com in case I needed to return it wanted it to be from a local store. Anyhow, I love it. Great for light jogging and walking. I can watch random bravo shows on my iPhone and I walk 1-2 miles a few days a week! Had it over a year so far with no problems! |
Don't knock it until you try it. We have had ours since 2000. Our came with a lifetime guarantee on parts. Don't go cheap - you will be disappointed. |
She didn't 'knock' it. Not everyone has $3500 lying around to spend on gym equipment. It's not being cheap, it's living within our means. |
We’ve had a Sole for 6 years. It gets medium use and we love it. My parents and sister got the same one and haven’t had any issues with theirs either. |
We bought a Landice this past October and I've used it every day since then. I love it and it is a great treadmill. But, as other posters have mentioned, if you don't have the money, you don't have the money. My parents have a Sole F85 which I used over Christmas vacation. It really can't compare to the Landice, but it is perfectly good for walking and light running. The big difference between it and our Landice is the quickness with which speed and incline changes take place. On the Landice, they are fast and on the Sole, they are slow. I think it would be impossible to do intervals with speed changes on the Sole. But, if you just want to set it to a speed and run at that speed, it's fine. I did several 3.1 mile runs on it with no problem. |
Did anyone look at the nordic track 2950? In many ways it gets good reviews on features etc - but looks like there can be problems up front for some users. The thought of spending that money, the set up and it doesn't work - uggh . (I run 18-24 miles a week at quick pace - though would have many family users). |
As one of the (apparently) very few people on this forum who does not earn $300,000 a year and is probably far closer to your situation, I would say the best thing to do is search craigslist for a cheap one and use it till it dies.
If you end up using it for a few weeks and give up (I'm not saying you will do this, but let's face it, this happens a lot) no big deal, you're only out a couple hundred bucks. If you end up using it all the time and it breaks, you know it's worth it to get a nicer one. If you end up using it all the time and it keeps on chugging for years, congrats, you just saved like $1,700! |
Buy a used treadmill -- a serious, name-brand treadmill for 500 bucks will hold up better than a new one that costs that same amount. Landice, True, LifeFitness, there are a lot of good treadmills out there. |
We've had purse for 8 years and it gets used by 3 people, including my 235# DH who puts about 15 miles a week on it. Probably gets used 100 miles a mont. Never had a problem. I just keep it lubricated. FWIW, I also have a concept2 and between those 2 pieces of cardio eqipment, we all keep in great shape. |
