This was 35 years ago. People change A LOT in 35 years. There is no reason to think that he is the same man now as he was then.

+1 I think that about anyone, although I'd say it would be almost impossible to have a political career after committing rape and/or murder.

Yea i don't think rac ist sentiment changes after 35 yrs. Has anyone met a reformed ra cist? Clintons mentor robert byd after being a kkk grand drago was accepted by dems. They knew clinton had a mentor who was supposedly not a ra cist anymore.

Did you even read the post upthread from the woman whose grandmother would hide her family in the backrooms when the KKK rode past their home?

Northam needs to go. I don't believe for one minute that he didn't know about that photo, and the fact that first didn't admit which racist character he was in the photo leads me to think he was the one in the KKK robe.

Justin Fairfax will be an amazing governor.

Not racism but patronizing. If the Dems didn’t pander to their African American constituents, they could win few races in blue states.

Better for AAs to vote for Republicans who explicitly plan to disenfranchise them. Right?

Better for EVERYONE to not vote for any candidate, Democrat or Republican, who explicitly plans to disenfranchise them.

I'd say it's better for everyone to not vote for candidates who plan to disenfranchise anyone.

I thought "everyone" covered it.

I agree, people can change. I hope and pray that in his heart that he has changed. But I don't believe someone who made racist choices in his adult past can lead effectively in Virginia.

How has he changed? What has he done to activley try to dismantle racism?

In his career as a pediatric surgeon or in the past year as governor?

In any role as an adult since this happened.

Why do you think so?

Why should Northam resign? What would that give him? Democrats would have to impeach him or buy him out to resign. His reputation is already tainted, and his career is toast. I wouldn’t resign if I were him.

Why do you think planned parenthood exposed the pic?

Yeah us Virginians better just learn to play banjo and dixie music. Everyone will think we're racists having a democrat gov who dressed as a kkk member or blackface.

Who believes this......

"When my staff showed me the photo in question yesterday, I was seeing it for the first time. I did not purchase the EVMS yearbook and I was unaware of what was on my page"

I do.

Can we STFU about this now and let it go?

LOL

Afraid not.

I also believe Northam. I had no idea there was even a yearbook for my college and I never even heard of a yearbook for graduate school. The whole thing is more than a bit weird.

I could believe that. I didn't know med schools had yearbooks. I'll have to ask my sister if her med school does and if she's ever seen it.

Sis in med school? I thought most people here were in their 40s

Well, she was. She's in her 40s now but she was in her 20s in need school.

He is an elected official and can’t just be fired. If he is not going to serve his term, he will lose his salary, benefits, and pension. He has nowhere to go after this. And he clearly does not want to take a fall for the sake of the party unless it serves him.

Doesn't matter. He needs to go!

Then Democrats would have to pay him to go. Otherwise, what does he gain by resigning?

He will be “amazing”? Based on what exactly?
