When they aren’t picked up, current school staff will juggle to provide coverage for the day. Coverage, not teaching. More resignations will happen next year because everyone will be more overworked.

You can’t force people to apply to be teachers if they don’t want to. Apply to be a sub if you want to do something to help.

In my opinion there should be a cap of 25 kids per classroom. Any additional child above that the teacher should get an additional $250-500 added to their salary. It is completely unfair that teachers with 20 students get paid the same amount as teachers with 29-30 students.

You are quoting me. Forgot the extra money. I just don’t want to be pulled during my limited planning or lunch to cover someone else or continue to have to plan for classes where they never hired a teacher. I agree with the other poster that they should reassign all instructional coaches.

Yes, and give some of the Gatehouse employees the option to return to the classroom or lose their cushy jobs.

Not happening no matter how many times you repeat it. Sorry. And no, I don’t work for Gatehouse, nor in education at all, so save it.

With a school this large why can’t FCPS just share prepared course material? How many different ways can you teach Because or Winn Dixie or Multiplication?

The prepared material they give us is junk. They hire a handful of teachers each summer to do “curriculum development” work, which produces awkward links sprinkled in pacing guides to random resources around the internet. Anyone with a brain knows it takes a massive team years to create a full curriculum, not 3 people 2 weeks.

That is exactly with some teachers go to TeachersPayTeachers. A huge school district that has been around for decades and we still don’t have proper material to use.

Yeah they don’t want us using TPT but it’s where I found most of my resources for SS, centers, crafts, etc.

And many things are free and sales happen all the time.

Well, who has money for things like this when we have kickoffs and symposiums with multiple catered meals and swag to pay for?

Examples like this make me SO HAPPY that I helped defeat the meals tax.

Whenever FCPS has more money, they just waste it.

I just read an article about Alabama where they tax so little, they can only use fines and fees to pay for regular services. Maybe you should go live there. Apparently most places can’t pay for school buses or libraries or anything else. I think you would like it!

I don’t know what to do anymore. I’ve advocated for the past 15 years to create their own teachers pay teachers site of sorts with ecart or another program.

Meanwhile, the elementary school principals are playing a round of 18 at Wintergreen Resort. While a bunch of them have many vacancies to fill. Think they took leave?

DP. If every school used the same curriculum from a central database, parents would complain and teachers would hate it because it wouldn't fit their classroom/students/what they need. For all those who complain about the lack of textbooks/workbooks, there are those who would complain about being constrained to the textbook/workbook or complain about having to supplement 99% of it because it doesn't suit their needs.
