It all started with bush v gore. SCOTUS appointed a republicans as president and said this was a one off case. Look at the Texas abortion law. SCOTUS allows the law to stand overturning precedent and constitutional rights.

I heard it from some connected Florida republicans(DeSantis outer circle). They are looking for a favorable judge. They think they have a few lined up because people think DeSantis will run for President.

Well that's justice for you. The fact is that if he dissolves the special district without assuming the debt, then he has to face the bond holders, not the Mouse. Because the Mouse did not issue the bonds. So Vanguard, iShares and everyone else will come after FL. There is no judge, no matter how crooked, that can assign this debt to them. Even if one tried, it would end up at SCOTUS.

If SCOTUS rules on Disney they will restrict the ruling to Reedy Creek Improvement District as a one off ruling. They have done it before in political cases and a few people will grumble about but not too loudly. The facts around the case would make it very easy to do. The 4.2 trillion municipal bond market will absorb the 1 billion dollar lost and continue on. DeSantis is a republican rising star and likely next President. No way in hell SCOTUS damages him politically.

+1. I am the pp you two are talking about/to. I am not a RWNJ, and am very anti-DeSantis. I think this was a stupid move be DeSantis and ultimately Disney will win this fight because legally DeSantis can’t do what he’s trying to do but is too arrogant to bother having this analyzed properly instead of pulling some stupid knee jerk move. But I stand by my position that SCOTUS would not allow DeSantis to go forward with this, and DeSantis wouldn’t let it get to SCOTUS level in the first place. He knows he screwed up so he will try to quiet negotiate a resolution.

DP. The corruption and intellectual bankruptcy of the Roberts court is legendary and I would not put it past them to side with DeSantis. They don’t seem to care about anything except installing the Christian white nationalist government that the GOP has wanted for decades.

You’re right. There is no shadow docket in which the far right justices have gotten away with absolute nonsense and even the full court hasn’t reversed precedence and ignored everything else in order to get to the result they want.

Turns out, having two completely illegitimate justices (plus Merrick Garland’s seat and Clarence Thomas, who has no business being on the court when he and his wife are warriors for the Christian nationalist movement) isn’t good for the court’s integrity. Who knew.
