What the hell happened to JD Vance?

People need to read or re-read Vance's book. E-book keyword search Iraq. He is so full of s*** about his faux service. Chicken hawk desk duty in North Carolina and then uses weasel words to act like he risked his life in Iraq. He is a shameless worm.

Shelby Twp, MI, where Vance spoke is a very conservative surburban area that has been a republican stronghold. The fact that he was barely able to get anyone to attend in an area that is pretty friendly to republicans is pathetic.

You people realize that he was speaking at a PRESS CONFERENCE, right? Not a rally? Honestly, the disingenuous comments are so typical.

A press conference where he couldn’t even answer a giant softball question from local media without looking like a weirdo.

He is a deeply weird guy.

Do you think the “salt of the earth” deplorables that vote Trump no matter what care about this stuff? It’s “their guy”

Sarah Palin is happy that she is no longer the worse Vice Presidential candidate in history.

Vance is a real crumpled up piece of work.

Interestingly, DeSantis may have been the VP pick if he hadn't burned a bridge with Trump during the primaries.

Absolutely! I have been thinking this for weeks. DeSantis and Vance were both trying to rise in big states crowded with ambitious Republican politicians, and in this current GOP environment you don’t rise due to any great new policy ideas or political acumen or star quality. You only advance if you get a Trump endorsement, and Trump endorses those who are the most obsequious instead of picking on any of the above reasons. So here we are, with these weirdos who seem uncomfortable with voters, with reporters, with anyone outside of Jack Posobiec’s lab for young MAGAites.

This is a very good point.

Thanks! Underscoring this is a prescient political cartoon from when Trump endorsed Vance’s Ohio Senate campaign in 2022.

Seriously. What a bizarre response that was.

There’s a reason he responded to “what makes you happy?” with “I’m angry.”

+1 He’s a very unappealing guy. Who would look at this smarmy, phony, uncomfortable-with-himself weasel and say “Hey, I like this guy.”

+2 He is just a jerk. I am not a political person, I don't have any desire to run for office, and I think if I did I would be terrible at it, but I do know that rule #1 is be somewhat pleasant, which he just refuses to do. I understand a lot of the time when he's being an ass, he's upset about mischaracterization of his words by the increasingly left-leaning media, but the smug, holier-than-thou demeanor will not get him anywhere. I am not voting for Trump, but a lot of people I know and love and consider smart are voting for Trump, and they like Vance's politics, they are worried about his impact on the Trump ticket.

Vance is a real crumpled up piece of work.

Why would Vance attack people with illustrious military careers? He stayed in just long enough to get college paid for and then went to go work at a hedge fund in Silicon Valley

Maybe he's counting the time he ate a falafel sandwich that was too spicy because he forgot the yogurt.

You're surprised a party with countless draft dodgers and chickenhawks attack people who serve? The Republicans have always done it. Why military vets ignore it and vote for them when the GOP does absolutely nothing for the ones who actually fight, is sad.

There is no left leaning media, and the media is certainly not becoming more so. No one is mischaracterizing the incredibly stupid and very weird things Vance has said, he’s just mad that people noticed.

He’s a rude jerk, as you point out. But between being a rude jerk and bad politics, he was of course the person for Trump to pick. Like with like.
