Worcester Polytechnic Institute. You have Google at your disposal for these kinds of questions.

Also heard from VCU for merit - 24k / yr

Sorry to hear about Harvard, but congrats on VCU. That is pretty much a free ride in-state. Well done.

I grew up near WPI. It's a great school. Congratulations to all the kids on this thread!

Would merit aid be in the acceptance letters or does it come in another letter?

It depends. It sounds like those who applied to VCU Honors for example have heard about merit while regular VCU admits will hear about merit later. Same with U of South Carolina. Roanoke sent it about a week after the email acceptance.

Depends on the school, but for DC the merit came in a separate email the day after the acceptance video.

Not quite. DC applied 11/1 regular rolling decision and was admitted 2 weeks later. Just now received word about the scholarship and an invite to apply for Honors.

Thanks! Did they mention in the acceptance letter it was coming later or it wasn't mentioned at all?

On VCU’s site it says applications received by November 1st will be considered for merit scholarships and will find out by April 1st.

DS in at Colorado School of Mines. We're all thrilled. It was a reach school. 4.3 wgtd GPA, test optional. decent ECs, but not "amazing" (by DC standards, at least).

"Can the UVM applicants tell me more about the school? "

Since DC hasn't started there yet we're no experts, but the kid's reasons for applying were
--Interested in studying environmental science and they have a strong program in that
--DC is outdoorsy and loves the setting--easy access to mountains, lake, hiking, canoeing, snow sports
--The size felt right; DC hated the small more isolated SLACs and strongly wanted a bigger school, but UVM is still pretty self contained and way smaller than someplace like Michigan
--just liked the vibe and tour guide

additional parental reasons:
--With DC TAG, we knew we could afford it (unlike some privates where it would depend on aid package)
--Blue state, high vax rates. We did not absolutely rule out red states but have little enthusiasm for DC going to places where many students are unvaccinated, COVID safety is flouted, Trumpian legislatures are gutting their own higher ed systems, etc
--Even tho it is not super close, we CAN drive there, or DC can take the train, which makes a bit more convenient than somewhere you have to fly
