Post Here about Admission to Clemente/MLK Middle School Magnets

Seems like Clemente letters are out. Let's keep those posts here, and let the Takoma/Eastern people have their own thread, since their letters are not out yet.

My kid got into both programs - Math, Science, Computer science at Clemente and Humanities at MLK. Kid is very excited and now has to decide!
I really don't know anything about MLK , so leaning towards Clemente. But will go for open house at both and then decide.

My kid got into the Humanity program at MLK MS. Anyone knows anything about this school? Is the school ready to take the program? How supportive is the school to this program?

?

The school seems to have about 200 students per grade, currently. Roughly half of them qualify for FARMs. So maybe 100 sixth-graders next year, outside the humanities magnet, who qualify for FARMs. Is that whom you're referring to?

I am not sure how I feel about my kid being the guinea pig for implementation of Humanities program in MLK My second kid got in humanities, older one did the same program in clemente.

Many -- maybe most -- of the humanities teachers at Clemente are moving to MLK, as I understand it.

I believe it is just the 6th Grade Clemente Humanities teachers who will be moving over to MLK this year, and next year will be the 7th grade teachers and finally in year 3 all Clemente Humanities will have transitioned to MLK.

PP you're responding to. Yes, that's my understanding too.

Clemente Humanities Alum parent here: I would see this as an opportunity to advocate for the program you want, instead of taking what's been established. The teachers are going over to MLK, and are committed to keeping the program strong there.
