Lafayette Flu

My sons class had at least 10 students out sick today. That’s almost half of the class. When are classrooms going to be properly cleaned? What is the protocol for parents sending their sick kids back to infect everyone else. The flu is no joke this year, folks. Think before you send your child in to infect everyone else!

Children have been throwing up all over the kindergarten hallway since last week.

Feel free to offer to bring in extra wipes, tissues etc.

Or to ask the teacher if you can help sterilize the classroom. I am sure they would appreciate the support.

What do you mean? Sanitizing the classroom doesn’t stop kids from bringing in germs. Your kids are around germs all day.

Homeschool if you’re that worried.

Why don't you ask the school? Not sure DCUM is going to be able to answer this for you...

Lafayette needs a listserv (example 33).

Agreed Lafayette needs a listserv. It's so easy to set up - all you need is a Yahoo Group or Google Group, add parent emails, voila!

Our school had parent volunteers come in one evening and early the next morning to help sanitize the school. Of course, we'll never know for sure if it made a difference, but so far, so good

Our school--Washington Latin closed mid-day about five years ago when so many kids were sick that vomiting was happening throughout the school. Parents were asked to come get their kids around lunchtime and the whole school was sanitized.

I'm confused by the OP's suggestion that parents sending sick kids to school are to blame given that that post and this one seem to indicate that many, many kids are, in fact, being kept at home. The flu spreads even when people try to exercise caution; especially among kids, since they rarely wash their hands properly and often put things/their hands in their mouths.

So it's not the flu but norovirus?

There are about 650 families at Lafayette. Most of those families have two parents, so we're talking about 1200 emails. No one is volunteering to create (and moderate) such a list serve.
