Yes, but it has made a conscious decision to only raise money and be a mouthpiece for the principal, not advocate for parents' concerns. Donations are way down this year, in part because of that.

PTAs are NOT supposed to “represent parent concerns.” Seriously. That is what the LSAT is for.

Then please tell us what PTAs are supposed to do?!

Note that on the national PTA website, Value #1 is "Collaboration: We will work in partnership with a wide array of individuals and organizations to broaden and enhance our ability to serve and advocate for all children and families."

Read your HSA bylaws.

Donations are way down because the former treasurer stole $40K.

The janitorial staff has been working their behinds off at Lafayette, and I know my kids got updated instructions on hand washing and spent time wiping things down with Clorox wipes. Kids at Lafayette do mix with kids around the city with extracurricular activities too, so it's a germ stew. Get the vaccine, wash hands, get rest and say a little prayer.

Why isn't this information being shared with the parents through existing channels (are there even existing channels)? It would seem important to know.

My child has a weakened immune system and his classroom has been very diligent about hand washing and hand sanitizing as a result. Their class has stayed relatively flu-free, while the rest of the school has been hit much harder. This small example suggests that diligent hand cleaning helps prevent the spread.

hey everyone — gastroenteritis (puking) isn't influenza ("the flu")

you're welcome.

I'm glad to hear this! When you have 20+ kids in a class, handwashing takes time (as does everything else). However, it's time that must be allotted. They should be doing it in every class...

Did this at Murch some years ago. It was the only way to ensure that desks/surfaces were really cleaned. We had some newer teachers and they did not realize that the reason we sent in disinfectant wipes is to have the kids wipe down their desks daily.
