David Grosso Has No Business Being Chair of the Education Committee

Grosso says, "Why you picking on Ballou?" Now that the FBI cares and the Post won't let the story go, he is suddenly shocked. His oversight is abysmal. You want to keep a lousy school system, keep Grosso. Otherwise get a committee chair who investigates and cares. Someone like a Catania. A horse (DINK) presiding over DCPS is just as effective as what we have now.

I'm not necessarily saying he needs to get unelected, but I am saying he sucks or just doesn't care when it comes to being a watchdog over DCPS. Jeff here said he has a big ?. But he also needs a brain and motivation. The DCPS needle hasn't moved forward, and if anything it's gone backwards. Save the big heart for charity, and use the brain to find out what the heck is going on and how things should progress.

The way politics works, he won’t lose his chairmanship unless he is not re-elected. I think his seat is up in 2029. Plenty of time to get your campaign going.

OP, which of the current Council Members do you think would do a better job? While there are a number of impressive CMs, probably only Gray is qualified for that committee. Trayon White could probably do a good job, but I doubt better than Grosso. At the end of the day, I think you will find that Grosso is the best choice.

Put in Charles Allen. At least he has a kid in the system and cares. He's also very smart. There's also Robert White and of course Vince Gray. How about Silverman? There are plenty of good options.

Jeff - Comparing the 2 worst council members (Grosso and Trayvon) isn't really presenting legit. options. This is probably the most coveted committee assignment; offering only the very 2 worst as options (Grosso and Trayvon) is not realistic.

Grosso is very liberal which is why you like him but he has no business running education. He just spent six months looking at suspension issues while DCPS is burning around him. Never the mind the fact that if Grosso got his way the kids causing the most distractions and discipline issues would still be in the classroom terrorizing teachers and students who actually want to learn.

Charles Allen is totally out of his league. His top priority is getting re-elected. He made sure his own kids went to JO Wilson to avoid the Eliot Hine and Miner sh!tshow. He has zero intention of doing anything for te people of Capitol Hill since his big priority is his own career. He's also super stupid. Call him and you will see for yourself. He will likely be voted out. Most people I know really despise him.

Why are you calling me out? I don't think Charles Allens sucks. I think he is a pretty good guy. But, I don't think he would do better than Grosso as the head of the Education Committee.

Cheh has no interest. If she had interest, she would already chair the committee. She is doing what she wants to do.

The criticism of Grosso's focus on suspensions is legitimate. But, suggesting the DCPS was burning down around him is simply not accurate. There was an issue of absences. I assume you think that kids should be in school and not absent, correct? That's what Grosso thinks too which is why he is worried about the overuse of suspensions. It is not a very consistent message to insist that kids need to be in class while simultaneously suspending them left and right.
