Rental car company not hertz

Last minute plans to do Easter weekend in Ft Lauderdale. We always use Hertz but they’re 2x the price of most other companies. What company do you recommend?

I used to travel 5-6 days/month, and always used National as a first choice. I never got stuck with manual locks or windows with them, as I did with other companies (always when traveling in the south, for some reason). And that was in 2004-2015!

They are all the same.

I've always liked National.

Hertz is expensive and I'm not sure what more you get for the money.

I use Hetz gold through my company. It’s nice to walk directly to your rental with keys ready to go.

I wish that were true.

Another Hertz Gold member. I have family in Orlando, Houston and Portland, OR. Love walking out with family and luggage in tow and just being able to go straight to the cars bypassing the long lines of people waiting to check in. If I don't like the car assigned to me, then I just find one I do like and walk back to the desk in the garage (the line is shorter than the line near the baggage claims) and let them know that I'm switching cars and which slot I've taken. If the line is too long, I can just take the one that I want and drive to the gate and the attendant there will update the record for the car that I've taken and off I'll go. Especially in Orlando, this can save you 45-120 minutes of waiting. I've also found that Hertz' customer service is at least one step above the discount rental companies (Alamo-Budget-Dollar).

If I can't get Hertz, I'll go with Enterprise which is often comparable in price to the discount companies, but treat the customers better. I've used them several times during car repairs and I'm willing to give them my business again.

I will never use the discount rentals again unless they are the only ones to have cars. I've been burned at least a couple of times by each and won't put up with their poor customer service.

so you've already done the work and figured out that everyone is 2x the price of hertz, which means that price is your qualifier.

just go with the cheapest one you searched.

Turo. Airbnb for cars. It was great!

And how is Easter weekend last-minute? It’s still two months away.

I liked avis because they had some connection to USAA at some point.

We always rent from the airport. They are a lot cheaper.

Another vote for National. I was really bummed when my company switched us from National to Hertz. Never a bad experience with National.

Hertz has been a PITA with false charges three different times, to the point where I had to do chargebacks from my corporate card because they wouldn't remove the erroneous charges.

We just switched from Budget (I know, I know) to Enterprise and they are SO NICE!!! What a difference to have friendly customer service representatives!

Go on Expedia and search for rental cars. It'll show you the cheapest offers.
