Pronounced “Mary-Anna”. I just love it- I wouldn’t do a nickname. I wanted a baby named this since about 4th grade.
Madeline is also dear to my heart but I’m not too crazy about the nickname Maddie. Thoughts? |
| Marianna is an old lady name. |
|
Marianna hands down.
Madeline is everywhere. |
|
If you were pronouncing Marianna as Mah ree ahnna, then I'd vote for that, but I think the Mary-Anna pronunciation would be hard to enforce.
Have you considered Mary-Anna as a name? Then you'd get the pronunciation you wanted. Otherwise, Madeline is a very nice name. |
Perhaps it is but it doesn’t dissuade me |
I like that spelling too. |
| Marielle? |
+1. You just won't avoid Maddy, especially once she starts school. Plus it's so past its peak. Pick the name you've loved forever and be a little weird with the pronunciation. |
| We have a Madeline in school who is always Madeline. She prefers it and corrects teachers and friends when needed. Both are lovely names! |
m +2. Love Marianna and haven’t heard it or met any little Marianna’s at all. |
| Marianna |
+3. My 6yo has a friend named Madeline--have never met a Marianna. I like it. |
| I know one child named Marianna and about a million kids named Madeline. Both are nice names. I'd choose Marianna since you've liked it for so long and since it's less common. |
| Marianna. Beautiful. |
| I like Marianna (maybe also consider Mariana?) |
