FFX sheriff Stacey Kincaid ends detaining inmates for ICE

Is there a thread for this already? I'm absolutely floored and incensed by this.

The Liberal insanity has to end.

No where near as much insanity compared to what is going on in the WH.

Any of you idiots live in FFX?

Good.

This decision was made a while ago, in compliance with federal law. It's illegal to detain anyone indefinitely.

Exactly. It’s unconstitutional. Why should states act unconstitutionally, just because the feds can’t get their act together and get to a jail on time to pick up the person with an immigration detainer?

I live in FFX and I support the decision.

+1

Are you able to elaborate on your anger, OP?

Wow, so FFX LE agencies are about to stop getting any support from the Feds.

Interesting.

well, I am angry at the tactics of ICE staking out homeless shelters and churches in our county. So, more power to our county for telling ICE it isn't gong to do its bidding.

The courts will decide. And so far, the courts shoot down a lot of Drumpf's half-baked ideas.

It doesn't sound like they were detaining anyone indefinitely. The old policy was to hold the inmate for up to 48 hours after their sentence terminated. The old policy and the new policy aren't exactly big news, rather a small change in procedure.

I don't understand why this country spends so many millions of dollars wasting time and people's livelihoods to deport a useful population, and one that has developed roots here, when they could be taking measures to limit FUTURE immigration, and thereby avoid the pain and family fracture they are causing now.

I am a foreigner on a work visa, not an immigrant. If a country wants to limit immigration, that's perfectly fine. But at least do it humanely. Don't throw out people, especially people who work at jobs no American wants and who pay taxes. There are many ways to tighten immigration of people who want to come in but haven't yet done so: wall, eliminating the lottery-based option, restricting family reunification to close family members, strengthening the merit-based system that is already in place...

Arresting people in 7/11s, cleaving families and throwing them out is inhuman, and short-sighted.
