If she was able to go to the shop a mile from her house for a couple minutes, she may be "healthy" in that she is out of bed - but not recovered. Not surprised she wasn't ready for pictures yet.

Hmmm, I’m the PP. still think it’s odd. She’s not like you and me popping out to the local garden store. She can have a hair and makeup and wardrobe team swoop in at any time to become camera ready. Maybe she’s just really, really particular and she is not willing to be in a photo if her appearance isn’t totally ideal but that also doesn’t match with that In Touch article that described her appearance as shocking. No one reported that in the Sun article and I assume she wouldn’t risk someone describing her appearance if she was seen in public looking very ill etc….

But it was all so unnecessary. There were so many other obvious ways to handle an incompetent staffer.

Announce to the world that "mistakes were made by staff" and don't name anybody. There, nobody will ever know the staffer's name. Sure, somebody could leak that staffer's name, but you can bet KP already knows the staffer's name and somebody could leak it today if they wanted to.

Then, either get the staffer training or move them laterally to some position where they don't have social media responsibilities. Done.

No, your perspective seems to be that a PR staff exists to both bolster their principal and to take the blame for mistakes. But KP is known to be extremely protective of their staff and to allow no blame towards them. Also, their reputation is built over time, by rising above problems, so they don't need to blame someone for every mistake. They just need to carry on.

Your perspective seems to be short term and focused on a different way of operating.

I don’t think she edited the photo personally, but I think they (plus their PR advisors) decided to photoshop an old photo, or splice a few old photos, because she wasn’t up to being photographed, and genuinely didn’t think they’d be caught. When they were caught and it became an international incident, they had to explain themselves somehow. They really couldn’t admit to editing the clothes in an old photo (particularly since they had specifically said it was current) and the best of a set of bad options was to have Kate take the blame. She’s well liked, a sympathetic figure (even more so because she’s sick), and generally has a lot of goodwill with the public. I think she probably agreed that this made the most sense.

The kids are off limits (as they should be) but Kate and William have been snapped plenty of times at their kids school sports.
