Where can I eat near Air and Space or Museum of Natural History

I know about the Native American cafeteria but I'm not real excited about it. Any other good options? I'll have my kids who are somewhat capable of restaurants (2 and 3).

I haven't gone there yet, but there is a cafe by the sculpture garden I hear

I can see why you might not want to spend good money on good food at the Native American cafeteria if the kids are only 2 and 3. There's a McDonald's at the Air & Space. There's a decent cafeteria below the National Gallery of Art. Museum of American History also has a cafeteria but with preschool-aged children you won't want to walk that far for lunch.

If it's a weekday there is a food court at L'Enfant Plaza, which is .5 miles from Air and Space. But honestly the museum cafeterias are what is going to be closest. I took my 2 and 3 year old to the American History museum a few weeks ago and while I had intentions of going somewhere for lunch we just ended up in the cafeteria. It wasn't ideal, but it was easy.

If you can get in, African American museum cafe is good. We often go up to gallery place area for more options, but I know that's too far for some families. i have good walkers. Teaism in Penn quarter is good, and there some newer places in that vicinity that I haven't tried yet.

On a warm day, the food trucks behind air and space ( the non mall side) sometimes have good options.

Sorry - I'm ok with spending money - I just have already been here before and wanted something different. I'm definitely not looking to Mcdonalds - wanted something good! I'll have my stroller - I may want to walk.

Interesting - did not realize there were food trucks.

There are tons of food trucks lined up and down the streets. Some of them have the average hotdogs but others have Schorr miles and gyros

Yes, the "good" food trucks line up outside of L'Enfant metro station, which is a quick walk from Air & Space. You can check out where food trucks are each day here: http://foodtruckfiesta.com/

I'm not totally sure what you're looking for. I had friends in town, and we ate with our kids at Old Ebbitt then walked to the Museum of Natural History.
People also recommended Hill Country BBQ, which I have now walked by, but still haven't eaten at.
I ate with my kids recently at Oyamel but I don't necessary recommend that with kids - food was good.

Agree on Hill Country-not too far a walk and good for kids.

Third for Hill Country. They have kid-friendly things like mac & cheese. And because you go up to the counter to get food, very minimal wait time for food.

That area of the mall is a freaking food desert.

Several places near the courthouse and archives metro stop that are good for kids (cosi, au bon pan).

Just an FYI the cafeteria/ McDonalds at the Air and Space is closed for remodeling.
