I need new tires and dealership is saying it will be $1000.
What is the best place (best price) for four new tires for a Subaru? |
| We buy our tires at Costco. |

It is so easy to shop for tires online. Just price them out at Costco and a couple of tire shops. If you want your dealer to get a chance at your business, print out the price sheets (be sure to include all the extra costs for valve stems, disposal, etc.) and see if they'll match it.
I've purchased three sets of tires in the last year and found the best prices at three different shops due to sales and other factors. One set was from costco, one set from a dealer and another set from a tire shop. |
| Do you want brand new or quality second hand? Is this a main car with years of use ahead of it? I got a location in the Chantilly area that is a bargain. |
| IME Walmart beats even Tire Rack on pricing plus you don't have to pay for shipping. Walmart also includes lifetime balance and rotation. YMMV depending on how close you live to a Walmart with an auto center. |

My 5-year tires from Costco lasted 2 years (when I went for an oil change, was told my tires were bald). They replaced them by giving me new 5-yeat tires, that I has to pay 3/5 the cost of. It happened a 2nd time (I drive less than 10,000 miles per year, nothing unusual), and I asked for the $$ back (they only gave me a portion), and I bought new tires from a tire shop. It's been 4 years and they are still going fine.
I will NEVER buy tires from Costco again. |
| I’ve bought tires at Tire Rack, Costco and Walmart. Good experiences at all three, and easy to compare prices. |
I also had a bad experience with Costco tires. They only had 1 model that would fit my car, and I was always getting flat tires. I only had that problem with the Costco tires. I read a DCUM thread about tires, and someone said they had looked at prices over a few months, and they were the same everywhere. I found that to be true. I needed some tires for my Highlander and priced them out. Then I went to my trusted mechanic who is walking distance down the street. He sold them to me for the same price as Tire Rack (without any haggling on my part), and he had them delivered and installed within 4 hours. |
| I recently bought tires on tirerack and had them shipped to a mobile installer. Great experience since the mobile installer came to my house before work on like a Thursday. |
| Tirerack |
| Alban tires (in Ffx cnty). $1000 for tires is a lot. $800 would be normal for a good brand of SUV tires. $400-600 would be more likely for a car. |
| Costco. |
I don't understand. Don't they sell name brand tires? |
