Which musical should I take my 12-Year old DD to in NYC or Chicago? Thank you! |
Wicked, definitely NOT Waitress.
There are always the Disney musicals, too. |
Lol.
Yes, NOT Waitress. My kid saw that on a school trip. It sounds awful, especially for a kid. |
Agree Wicked, no question. |
Well, the top choice would be Hamilton, but that means buying tickets on the secondary market.
My 10-year-old loved School of Rock. Depending on your kid, Hello Dolly might be fun -- kind of a throw-back, but Bernadette Peters is now headlining it so that would be a life-experience. |
Agree on Wicked. Also Mamma Mia is good with tween/teens. My slightly older teen liked Waitress. It depends on how comfortable you are with sexual issues. |
Thank you all! Will look into booking Wicked or Mama Mia then. |
In addition to Wicked, School of Rock I would also suggest SpongeBob. We are seeing in February. |
It's actually fantastic...one of the most entertaining, charming musicals I've seen in years. Not for 12 years olds though, there I agree. |
If Chicago, you should be able to get moderately affordable Hamilton tickets -- a bunch usually open up a few days before the show at more reasonable prices (look on ticketmaster to track). I know the NYC ones are more expensive since it's the home base for the show, but Chicago isn't a traveling production and is very high quality. |
Come From Away was a hit with my 12 yo and I loved it too. |
Anastasia is fantastic. Spongebob is fun. Chicago Hamilton is relatively reasonably priced. Wicked and Mamma Mia are so out of date, there are plenty of better choices now. |
In New York, "Come from Away." I enjoyed it more than "Hamilton." |
My 13 year old loved Come From Away. |
Mamma Mia closed a long time ago in nyc.
I live here and my kids have enjoyed Hamilton, Come from Away, School of Rock, Hello Dolly, Aladdin and the various musicals at Lincoln Center. I remember seeing Carousel around 12 with Audra MacDonald and it blew me away. It’s coming back this spring, as is My Fair Lady. Really depends on the kid. There’s something for everyone. |
