Musical with 12 year old on a trip in NYC or Chicago

Hamilton in Chicago! cheaper - and easier to get tickets.

We recently took a middle school Girl Scout troop to New York and saw School of Rock. They loved it!

Yes, NOT Waitress.

My kid saw that on a school trip. It sounds awful, especially for a kid.

It's actually fantastic...one of the most entertaining, charming musicals I've seen in years.
Not for 12 years olds though, there I agree.

It was a high school kid.

According to him it was a bunch of middle aged, dumped by some guy, saddled with a kid so I am going to bake pies to turn my life around.

It sounded dumb and the music is not that great.

Aladdin or Lion King of course because they would be familiar and “big” as a first show to see. Wicked was wonderful but my teens were a bit older. We have friends who have loved Anastasia and School of Rock.

Come from Away! My 13 year old loved it. He is now begging to see Dear Evan Hansen.

Wicked is pretty timeless, I think dear Evan Hansen Tix are as pricey as Hamilton, I hear wonderful things about come from away, and Mean Girls is opening in March if you missed it here.

Mean Girls was great but, we took older teens. Depending on your kid it could be uncomfortable in some scenes. We also saw Come from Away in DC and that was great. Dear Evan Hansen was also wonderful but expensive ( also a bit of a downer since it deals with heavy topic) We did enjoy it though and got to see Ben Platt.

I hadn't heard of this one - I read the book (The Day the World Came to Town) that this was based on (I assume) and the book was amazing and uplifting. Can't wait to see this sometime!

Hands down School of Rock...the kids' talent in that musical was amazing and inspiring!
