I have a $500 airline credit that I need to use by May and I need suggestions on where to go.
A few caveats, I'm pregnant and would be traveling with DH and 4 yo DS. I would prefer to travel in April or May (due to a lot of work travel beforehand). It has to be somewhere warm- at least 70 degree guaranteed. I would probably go for no more than 5 days including travel (because I need to hoard my leave for maternity leave). |
| Which airline? |
| Orlando! |
| New Orleans? |
| Is it $500 total? I was going to say San Diego but that would be more like $500pp. For $500 total I think Florida makes sense. Chicago should also be warm enough that time of year. |
Delta |
$500 for me alone. Unfortunately, I can not split the credit with other travels. I have been considering CA... What could we do in San Diego? |
San Diego is great, and I bet you could find tickets for less than $500pp With kid: zoo. Seaworld. Legoland (not in San Diego). Beach. Drive to desert. Aquarium. There you go! 4 days, right there. |
This sounds fantastic! Thank you! |
NP. It's a GREAT city for kids. We once took a walk down Point Loma and saw a huge submarine coming in. My 2 year old would have lost his mind (he was not yet born). |
| Too bad it is Delta. I just called them the other day because a friend was going to let me use her 2-1 certificate. They have NO direct flights right now to anywhere in Fl, AZ or Nevada from DCA, IAD, or BWI. They did just add direct to LA from DCA but that is not going to even cover 1 person. I would hate to have a connection if I were pregnant. You are SOL |
Yeah, I just looked up the flights to San Diego and they are long, but under $500. I am used to international travel so it won't be so bad for me. I rarely have flights for less than 8 hours. |

| This is pp who originally suggested San Diego. We have family there and go often - though we generally don’t do the touristy stuff. The zoo is great, as is balboa park right next door. They have great museums (unfortunately not free like here). There’s a carousel, mini train ride, and some neat cactus/desert gardens. You may like old town. This past trip, we went to miners gems and minerals http://www.minersgemsandminerals.com/ which I had never heard of despite living in San Diego for my first 14 years and visiting at least 2x a year since. For $5 your kid can pan for gems and minerals. My kid and his cousins loved it and came away with a small bag of beautiful rocks. So cool. The aquarium is the birch aquarium in La Jolla and it’s great as well. If you’re up for a little drive, Julian and the cuyamacas are fun (and I think you can make kind of a loop with the the Anza borrego desert). You would have a blast. |
