High protein diet. Fewer calories overall?

Anonymous
Hi. I have been tracking my calories for the past month. Over the last 1.5 weeks, I have cut carbs dramatically and increased protein + good fats.

Before, when I was eating a lot more carbs, I was still hungry at the end of the day even when I reached the total number of calories I set as a goal (not too low - I'm aiming for slow weight loss). Now, eating much more protein and more fats, I'm clocking in at anywhere from 200-700 calories lower than my goal, every day, but feeling much more satiated at the end of the day.

Is this normal, and have others experienced it? Should I have a lower calorie goal if eating more fats and proteins? (I'm not doing keto, still keeping some carbs in the mix, just far fewer.)

Thanks!

Generally it should be fine if you're looking for fat loss, but we can't say for sure without stats.

You should input your info. into a calculator just to be sure you're getting at least your minimum protein amount so you don't lose too much muscle.

Thanks. What kind of stats do you mean?

Protein and fat will keep you satiated longer than carbs. It makes sense that if you’re making reasonable protein and fat selections, you can be full with fewer calories

That was my experience on a low carb diet. I counted calories just for info, and it was less overall than what I usually ate.

Yep, that's the main reason a lot of people lose weight when on a low carb diet.

I eat mostly protein, which is not necessarily a good thing, but it keeps my weight down significantly.
