So DS has pretty consistent scores.

NNAT 133
Cogat 134
WiscV 141

I’m concerend bc I’m the Cogat and wisc he has average-below average verbal scores. Will this be a red flag for aap?

Scores are above cut-off and WISC is great!

He is likely an automatic in. Don't stress.

Average - below average relative to the general population, or relative to AAP candidates? VCI and Cogat verbal of < 100 probably would be a red flag without a 2E diagnosis. Is he above grade level with language arts?

Thanks all. Scores are 112 and 116 for verbal. I’m feeling like I should’ve read more to him as a child!!

Just to add to that: If he actually is below average in verbal tests, I would get him checked out for some sort of LD. It is atypical to have that big of a gap between the areas of strength and the areas of weakness. If by "average - below average", you somehow mean in the 110-125 range (because FCPS is crazy?!), then you shouldn't worry at all with those test scores. Either way, your DS is clearly gifted.

Our kids can be buddies. Mine scored low 140s on CogAT, and high 130s on WISC, but with all of the mathy scores hitting the ceiling and all of the verbals between 110 and 125. Don't worry about it. I would be shocked if either of our kids aren't admitted.

That is NOT average or below average! 110 - 119 is high average

Yes, sorry, I didn’t mean for it to sound like I am putting them down. I didn’t have the exact percentile rank but remember something about being average. I totally know these are great scores, just worried bc the verbal is so obviously different than the other scores. So that just gets me concern d. I also thank the PP that asked me to look into maybe a mild LD. Not a bad one, but something is not clicking the way the math does.

You're not alone. I know most of AAP parents I know told me in the past their verbal scores were the worst of the three. It is not a negative thing at all. You should be in.

It really just means that your kid is highly gifted in math/nonverbal areas, and merely above average in verbal ones. Your kid will probably end up being an engineer or scientist and not a lawyer or writer. I don't see why that would be a red flag. Without the WISC, maybe you would have to worry that the committee would reject your child due to the lower verbals. With that high of a WISC, he will almost certainly be accepted.

I actually think even without WISC you should be in.

Everyone has a profile of strengths and weaknesses. What is the difference? You need the difference between IQ and achievement to be concerned with a LD. Are you talking about a 30+ points? Otherwise, I wouldn't be concerned.
