Time to regulate Twitter along with the other tech giants to protect democracy?

https://www.projectveritas.com/2018/01/11/undercover-video-twitter-engineers-to-ban-a-way-of-talking-through-shadow-banning-algorithms-to-censor-opposing-political-opinions/

Steven Pierre, Twitter engineer explains “shadow banning,” says “it’s going to ban a way of talking”

Former Twitter software engineer Abhinav Vadrevu on shadow banning: “they just think that no one is engaging with their content, when in reality, no one is seeing it”

Former Twitter Content Review Agent Mo Norai explains banning process: “if it was a pro-Trump thing and I’m anti-Trump… I banned his whole account… it’s at your discretion”

When asked if banning process was an unwritten rule, Norai adds “Very. A lot of unwritten rules… It was never written it was more said”

Olinda Hassan, Policy Manager for Twitter Trust and Safety explains, “we’re trying to ‘down rank’… shitty people to not show up,” “we’re working [that] on right now”

“Shadow banning” to be used to stealthily target political views- former Twitter engineer says, “that’s a thing”

Censorship of certain political viewpoints to be automated via “machine learning” according to Twitter software engineer

Parnay Singh, Twitter Direct Messaging Engineer, on machine learning algorithms, “you have like five thousand keywords to describe a redneck…” “the majority of it are for Republicans”

So the same people who just decided that the Internet was no longer a common carrier will decide that Twitter is.

Fabulous!

Edit tapes to make them lie?
That’s just downright funny.

The same twitter that lets Donald Trump and white nationalists consistently violate the terms of service/use and has enabled an army of millions of bots to infiltrate its environment.

I thought conservatives want private sector companies to have complete freedom? Their platform, their rules.

"Stalin was right to focus on tank production to beat Hitler"

See how that works?

As a conservative, I agree with you to some extent. Their platform, their rules.
But if they are going to do this, they should advertise that this is what they do. If they are proud of the way they “filter” content, then put their beliefs and unwritten rules out there for all to see.
Why the secrecy?

Why the secrecy of Exxon burying their climate change models they developed in the 1970s?
Why the secrecy of Phillip Morris not telling smokers for 40+ years that smoking causes cancer?

I mean, Republicans have allowed corporations to get away with a lot of stuff for decades. Why do they suddenly cry foul with Twitter?

Do they also reorganize the order of the words in real time as the sentences leave their mouth? Honestly, that was indeed funny

You probably don’t realize it, but you have just made my point.
