| This may be wishful thinking, but I expect DC will have this as the final list to choose from. Bright and wonderful kid, but still not sure about career path (hence focus on liberal arts schools). Gets along with all strata of social circles. Have visited all and gotten a good vibe from all. What do you think? |
| Can't go wrong. Denison most likely to give merit aid of the bunch I believe. |
| Colby |

Four very good choices.
My son is at Denison - first year. I have posted on this site before and we (my wife and I) are very happy and my son, who is quiet, seems very content. Whenever we inquire about his choice he has never expressed a reservation. First semester grades were good and we feel fortunate for him to have the experience. My best advice would be for your DC to over night at each school. I think that will give your DC the best feel. Best of luck. |
Overnight at four schools in three different states that sre hundreds of miles apart? Do people actually do this? |
| You really just need to go with the best ranked one out of this list and call it a day. |
| All great choices. Denison and Kenyon seem to have a buzz around them, but Colby is playing the USNWR game well. Conn College has always been considered to be a bottom half NESCAC, but their campus is gorgeous, students are very bright, as is the school's future. Not sure you can go wrong. Let your kid decide. |
| rankings mean NOTHING |
Not the bottom half, the actual bottom. The joke has always been that Trinity is thankful that Conn Coll is in the league so they’re not the bottom. Still a decent school and yes, a lovely campus. Personally, I would choose Colby in a heartbeat. Best of luck OP! |

I would pick Denison. Since they are all similar academically I would focus on the social aspect and location. Colby and CC draw more from the northeast (NYC suburbs, Boston suburbs) and Denison more from the midwest.
Colby is really in the middle of nowhere and the winters will be brutal. I grew up in Connecticut and went to Colgate for 2 years before transferring. The small school combined with isolated location and terrible weather made it a very depressing place. Colby would be similar I think. I had several friends from high school who went to Denison, Wooster, and Kenyon. I visited them often during college and they had the nicest friends and an awesome liberal arts college experience! There was a noticeable difference in the culture. People from the midwest are just friendlier. Another thing to really consider is how your DC will travel home. Denison is only 30 minutes from the Columbus airport which will make flying home easy or a 6.5 hr drive. It would be difficult to get home from Colby. |
I'm the PP. It wasn't meant to be presumptuous. Denison and Kenyon could be done in one trip as they are 30-45 minutes apart. Conn College is an Amtrak trip and I'm not sure about Colby. My son overnighted at 3 - two were basically co-located and the other was Denison. It was very helpful. |
No. Go with the one with the best fit - for your DC, for finances, etc. |
When I visited last year Conn College seemed if not run down well then let's just say I saw a lot of deferred maintenance. Made me wonder about their financials. |
Where did you transfer to? |
| Colby is easy to get home from. Easy to get a ride or bus to Boston and ... Colby is the best of the list. |
