I lost a lot of weight (yay!) but now I'm cold. All. The. Time.

Over the last year I've lost about 60 pounds (went from 220 to 160). I worked very hard to lose the weight, and I'm obviously really happy about the benefits, but an unexpected side effect is that now that the temperature is dropping, I'm so much colder than in past winters.

Our house is old and drafty and I'm used to wearing a sweater around the house, but this time around I'm in a scarf, thick socks, etc., and it's getting ridiculous. Same thing at work. These days I tend to drape my "office cardigan" over whatever sweater I'm already wearing, and keeping my scarf on all day. I've started wearing woolly socks and sweatshirts to bed!

Short of regaining the weight, am I going to acclimate or will I just be freezing forever? (I forget to mention that I HATE being cold!)

You'll acclimate. It's also much colder than usual this week. Congrats on teh weight loss!

Yup. The only time I wasn’t freezing when I was pregnant and gained 50 lbs. It maybe your circulation. I wear wool socks from October to may, slippers, silk undershirts Uber everything. And my feet and hands still go numb. St work I wear fingerless cashmere gloves to type in.
Make sure the sweaters and socks are wool or cashmere tee or fleece.

Op, same with me. Lost 50 pounds and loved not sweating as much all summer. But now, cold all the time. Still glad I lost the weight!

How did you do it OP??

Same happened to me after losing 50 pounds about 10 years ago.

Just started gaining it back in the last several months and I’m no longer cold ??.

Take ReMag (Magnesium) drops. Around 200 mg to begin with and go up to 400 mg in divided doses

Made some lifestyle changes (especially more exercise), started tracking every single thing I eat with My fitness pal, and changed the way I cook and eat.

I'm an excellent cook, and I finally started using those skills to make meals that are healthy but are also tasty and filling. I carefully plan all of my meals each week, including snacks (too much snacking has always been a major issue for me). I do a lot of Mediterranean cooking but I don't have any food types that I've completely given up (I still eat carbs, sugar, cheese, etc. but in moderation, and I always track it). Im trying to do this in a way that is sustainable over the long-term.

Check your iron and B-vitamins levels. Take a nutritional yeast supplement.

Definitely get a Complete Blood Count. Anemia makes you cold.

Get your thyroid checked.

Congrats OP! I lost 25 pounds several years ago and I’m still cold all the time. It sucks, but I’d rather be a cold size 4 than a toasty size 10.

Buy warmer clothing and congrats on the weight loss!

Yeah me too. I wear layers and wool socks. Live in my Ugg boots in the winter, have several down coats, all with hoods, down vests and gloves kept in my purse, car, at work and at home.

I lost a lot of weight too, but now I'm hot all the time. Do you exercise regularly, including strength/weight training? I feel like that muscle conditioning helps keep me "warmer" in a way.

Otherwise, I think you'll acclimate a little bit. The rest of it might be just adjusting your wardrobe to warmer wearing.

And congrats on the weightloss!!
