Any other alums who think their school has gone off the deep end?

My college which has always been very liberal (think Oberlin level) when I attended has turned into a circus. There is this obsession with diversity, both economic and racial, that is ridiculous. Everything is about identity politics and I cringe reading the alumni magazine.

Culture changes. What you want your former school to be is really rather irrelevant if current students and recent graduates find that the environment and education suit them, don't you think?
Anonymous
Yes. They don't get any more money from me especially since they charge about $70,000 a year.

Good for them. So many things swept under the rug before. If you'd been abused in any way, OP, you'd have a different perspective.

Yup. My alma mater is no longer about education; it’s turned into an echo chamber and I will not donate a penny.

OP: I have donated almost every year since I've graduated, and think I've reached the point where I can't justify it anymore. Culture changes, but my college has started fluff "studies" majors and lost any semblance of free speech. I was on campus for homecoming and couldn't believe how much students, administration, and faculty equated any semblance of conservatism as something that needs to be apologized for. If they are going to criticize people having wealth, then they don't need my money earned thru capitalism.

Am I reading this right: they don’t like Trump and you don’t think their opinions could possibly have any validity.

OP again, I despise Trump, but there is a real segment of the country's population that believes the things that he says. And to easily dismiss them is a shame, because being able to have adult conversations with those of different opinions is important way to bridge divides. Painting all republicans as racist misogynists is too simplistic.

Hell, at some schools, they’re not even going after Republicans or conservatives. They’re condemning professors who teach Aristotle and Plato as white supremacists, not allowing professors to speak and disrupting their classes with protests, screaming at professors who teach humanities classes, etc.

OP I agree. And so does my DH (different schools). And we are liberal as well.

My school shut down 7 dorms because of significant drop in enrollment.

Here's a list of all universities and their free speech rating: https://www.thefire.org/spotlight/

I'll keep giving as long as my alma mater maintains a green light rating. As long as they don't shut down any viewpoint that is expressed in a non-violent manner, it's fine with me.
