Two-year-old child has never been outside the town we live in.

DD is just two last month. She is a very active child and never sits still. It is hard enough getting her in the car for a 20 minute drive so I cannot imagine taking her on a plane/boat/train anywhere. Her little friends - exactly the same age - have been to Hawaii, Europe, Russia, Cuba, the mountains... DD has been to the beach and it was a nightmare trying to keep her from running off.

How developmentally behind is she going to be if we never go anywhere? I am so tired...

This is a joke question, right?

Seriously? I’d be more worried about how much her idiot parents are holding her back

You all know that this is a discipline issue, right?
Undisciplined parents usually have undisciplined kids.

I do think that traveling is important as is exposing your child to as many things as possible at an early age (before five). You still have time, OP.

Which they then forget, because that is how their brains work.

OP, just pretend you took her places. She'll never know.

Uh, I'm not concerned about taking my kids places when they're 2. My 5 year old doesn't remember what we took him to last year or the year before.

Really? I highly doubt I had any vacations that small due to poor parents. I’m fine. Work with keeping your kid from running off.

The brain synapses are there from travel, PP. Has nothing to do with memory. Travel is great for little kids.

We didn't travel much early on. A few trips but nothing major. Child is now 7 and a great traveler so we are doing a lot more now.

She's 2 and can't handle the car? That's a pretty significant issue.

I lived in Europe until I was 5. Don’t remember a thing.

Your undisciplined child however, needs some work.

+1 as well as emotional pathways. A baby learns he/she is safe in a totally different environment with different sounds, smells, and sights. Promotes self-sufficiency and well-being as well as risk taking.

Like PP wrote, retrievable memory has nothing to do with it. The baby's senses have all been enlivened.

This is BS.
Read to your kid. Sing to them. Bring them outside in all seasons. To performances. Sports. You don't need to go far.

But it would be good to teach her to chill for more than 20 minutes.

Oh come off it.

A farmers market sounds different than a grocery store.

You don't need to go to a different continent.
