We always sang it this way as kids but I can’t recall anyone doing it in recent years outside of our family that is.
Do you and your family sing this way? |
| NO. That seems kind of...odd! |
| Never heard. |
| Never heard that. Were you raised in a religious group, OP? |
|
Could be worse. We sang this at the end of the song:
"there is sorrow in the air. people dying everywhere. happy birthday uggh happy birthday uggh happy birthday uggh to you uggh uggh" |
|
| You folks have some interesting families. |
| It's not even musically appropriate to the melody. |
| They sang this for birthdays at my DD's NE DC elementary school (mostly AA students). I was really surprised when they broke out that verse the first time I brought a cake in for a birthday! Had never heard it before. |
Yasssss! I knew this one too! |
|
The only one I've heard is:
Happy Birthday to you You live in a zoo You look like a monkey And you smell like one too! |
|
May God bless you,
In all that you do, May Jesus and Mary, Watch over you. This is a several generations old habit on one side of my family. No sneezing though. |
| I haven't heard that since I was a little kid. At Church we still sing it with that verse but not the sneezing. "May G-d bless you in all that you do..." |
| Popular with African Americans. No idea why. |
| May the good Lord bless you...may the good Lord bless you.. no sneezing though |
