Music streaming device without browser, www. Does it exist?

Anonymous
I'd like my 9yo to have a subscription to Amazon Music or similar, only I don't want him to access the web.

Anyone know if a device exists that streams music, not just download (so no iPod no iPad)

Streaming requires the internet for continuous data flow. Otherwise you need to download music and create offline playlists.

Or he could listen to the radio.

Yes, if you got an Alexa or Echo or whatever they're called and hooked it up to a speaker and synced it with Amazon music the child could tell Alexa what they wanted to listen to.

That would be connected to the internet.

No sh*t moron. You cannot stream music without the internet, just like you cannot download books for a Kindle without the internet. But streaming through an Alexa disallows exploration of the internet that handing a kid an iPod allows. I'm assuming the OP is trying to restrict access to browsing inappropriate content and you can't tell Alexa to show you porn.

Not OP, but can't you still ask Alexa questions like, "What's in the news today?" I also have a 9 yo, and I wouldn't be keen on him asking that and hearing, "Al Franken announced he will be resigned after multiple women accused him of sexual harassment" or "North Korea launched an intercontinental ballistic missile today that experts believe would be capable of reaching Washington, D.C."

If you don't want a smart speaker like Alexa or Google Home, you can also get an internet radio, which does only that:

https://www.google.com/search?q=internet+radio&tbm=shop

You can download the amazon music app, and then put a password protect on any app that allows him to browse, like chrome app or whatever is on his phone/tablet. You may need to download an app locker.

The Echo with Amazon music is your best bet. If you can't tolerate him hearing the headlines or knowing that the Internet exists or whatever, just burn some CDs of mom-approved music and give him a CD player if they still make them. Or you can just give him the Echo, tell him it's for music, and don't demonstrate what else it can do.

Streaming music without the web- it's called the radio.

Get an iPod Touch. With restrictions and guided access you can lock it down. Get Apple music and you are golden.

Sonos. Streams music via WiFi, but the device itself offers no access to the web.
