Accidentally bought gluten free Tate's cookies... so GROSS!!

Why do people eat this? The cookies taste like and have the texture of sand. No nutritional diff on label either. Might as well not bother.

Because people have celiac disease, that is an autoimmune disease that needs to be managed carefully. They're not doing fad diets.

If you need a recommendation for a tasty gf cookie, they exist.

Which ones? The chocolate chip ones are excellent. They are also sold as the Trader Joe's GF chocolate chip cookies. Many GF ones do taste like sand, but not the Tate's ones.

You might be confused as to why people buy factory made gf products. For our family being gf is necessary unless my father, my son, and I want damaged intestines. Tate's are not great but are still GREATLY appreciated when a parent at school brings some so my kiddo can join in class celebrations (happened at Thanksgiving and I was thankful since I didn't know there would be sweets allowed at the party). We don't expect other families to understand that they can't bake gf cookies at home on cookie sheets and with utensils that have been used to bake other stuff. A packaged product means we don't have to worry.

You must not be talking about the chocolate chip cookies. My sister has celiac so I bought these cookies for her when she visited once, and they became my favorite supermarket chocolate chip cookie. Similar to the thin and crispy Pepperidge Farms cookies.

Tastes like sand and the sandy flour (?) they use gets stuck in your teeth. Also a gross aftertaste.

Why even bother with cookies if you need GF? I'd rather go without than eat GR cookies.

I've never had those, but I have digestive issues when I eat wheat. So at least the GF cookies are something if you want a treat or if someone else feels uncomfortable with you not eating dessert (happens a lot in my family...)

I don't need to eat GF, but I love the Tate's chocolate chip and gingersnap cookies that a coworker brought in recently. And those Trader Joe's GF chocolate chip are delicious and buttery.

Because kids get celiac and want cookies and sometimes us moms have to work a lot and can't be home to bake cookies very often.

Naw, most people who claim to have celiacs do not have celiacs. It is just a bunch of disordered eaters who believe everything they read on the internet.

Tate's GF chocolate chip and ginger varieties are my hands-down favorite GF cookies. If you want to taste SO GROSS gf cookies, I'll put you in a time machine back to the 90s when the options for people like me with Celiac disease truly were terrible. At that point in time, I definitely did just choose to go without.

Now go get yourself some Pepperidge Farm or something and quit grousing!

Anyone who chooses GF cookies for "nutritional benefits" is an idiot. Most people don't do that, though. Most people are smart enough to realize that sugar is sugar, regardless of whether it is mixed with wheat flour or rice flour, and cookies are not nutritious whether they are GF or not.

Most people who choose GF cookies really do have celiac, or a wheat allergy or intolerance (not the same as celiac but can also be quite debilitating if not managed). GF cookies are treat for them. Sorry it didn't meet your standards.

I also seriously dislike these cookies. I have a wheat allergy (i.e. my throat closes) so I’m always in the market for a good gluten free cookie I can eat. From my perspective, these are not one. I bought a bag a few years back and thought they were awful then. At the time, besides the chocolate chips, they had some kind of gummy chunks in them that were incredibly horrible - so bitter! I ended up throwing the rest of the bag away, and vowed I would never buy them again which I haven’t. However, as part of my Christmas present this year, a friend gave me another bag. I decided to try them hoping maybe the recipe had changed. There were no gummy wads in the cookies this time, but they were pretty much tasteless except for the incredibly bitter after taste. I will be throwing the rest of the bag out. I would rather do without than ever eat these cookies again.
