| My mum is in her late 70s and still jams to all the pop stations on XM radio. Every pre-set in her Mini Cooper is pop2k, Hits 1, KIIS, Z100/NY. Guess it makes her feel young? She loathes old music. |
| That’s great. My mom listens to stuff like Neil Diamond and The Beach Boys, my dad likes polka when he drives. They’re 67 and 70. |
| My mom is a little old church lady. She listens to gospel and oldies (motown). |
My parents are late boomers, early gen X and they love Talking Heads, Nirvana, Mudhoney, Bowie, Prince, Dinosaur Jr, Sonic Youth. They think my music (Taylor Swift, Adele, whatever is on the Top 40 station) is lame

Parents are young boomers and listen to top 40s radio. 99.5 here in DC.

It is lame. You need to develop more sophisticated taste. |

My dad grew up in the midwest in the early 60s (graduated high school in '64) so he really likes a lot of MoTown, Diana Ross, etc.
Both my mom and Dad like the Beatles, Janis Joplin, other 60's-70s music. They also listen to classical. |

My parents would have been 79 this year if they were still alive. They both loved a lot of different types of music, though they mostly tended to play folk and bluegrass when we were growing up. They were interested in whatever we were listening to when we were kids--my dad even got into our heavy metal phase in the 80s (he liked the Scorpions and Iron Maiden the best from that era). My mom was very eclectic in the final years of her life. She introduced me to Butch Hancock and Joe Ely, the Drive by Truckers, and the Magnetic Fields. She was forever grateful that I introduced her to James McMurtry and Todd Snider.
I often wonder if any of the music we played when our kids were little will shape the music they like when they are older. They mostly listen to rap. My eldest is really into Miranda Lambert as well though, so maybe we have had some influence. I wouldn't have thought it possible, but I have come to love some rap songs and artists after years of them insisting that I listen to their favorites. |
| ^impressive! |
+1. I love Adele, but "whatever is on the Top 40 station" is not better than David Bowie. |
|
Classical, like me. |
You don't know what you're talking about. 99% of the stuff on Top 40 radio is not breaking new ground at all. Bowie did. |
| My parents enjoy lots of classic rock. My mom and I love The Boss and Bon Jovi. |
