| I have a relative who regularly sends non urgent texts late at night. I use my phone as an alarm so it is beside my bed and the ping always wakes me up. Is it ok to politely ask not to text me after 10pm? Do other people do this? I feel that if it's too late to call it's too late to text. An email which doesn't ping would suffice if it's not urgent. |
| I'm pretty sure you can put your phone on silent and the alarm function will still work. |
|
No one does this because they know how to use the do not disturb functionality.
Don't ask this of them. |
| You can put it on do not disturb. Or do not disturb with the exception of certain people . |
| Totally okay. I have yelled at my parents to stop texting me at 5 am (I'm in CA; they're on the East Coast). |
| PP here again--also, I have my phone on silent every night and the alarm still works. Do some basic googling before posting! |
PP of the "no one does this" post. |
|
Yep. OP, put your phone on "do not disturb." Alarm still works.
|
And if you have an iPhone, you can specifically put that one relative on Do Not Disturb and allow the rest of your phone to function normally. Do so by going to the "info" button on the top right corner of your messages with that relative. |
| I agree with using Do Not Disturb, but it's also perfectly reasonable to ask someone not to text after 10 pm. |
| I turn the ringer off my phone but the alarm is independent so it goes off full blast. (I have an iPhone though) |
| Completely inappropriate to text at times you wouldn't call. And rude too. |
|
I never text or call outside of reasonable day time hours unless I know someone is awake, it's urgent or I know they routinely switch off their phone at night. And as I never know the latter I err on the side of not being an asshole and don't text during night time hours. Basic decency.
So yeah, telling someone to be polite - completely acceptable. |
| Just learn how to set Quiet hours, FFS. |
| Let me guess, those of you who are indignant that folks should text at all hours... you're all millennials, right? |
