ECNL moving to school year not calendar

Think it through, as much as BY parents come on here and wish, do you really think that a 2011 ECNL team is going to sit back and wait until what? Spring 25 to start identifying talent and working them into the team? There are no tryouts guys. We all know the good kids in each market. If you think the phone calls haven't already begun, you're naive. If you think they don't want to open the door to Q3/Q4 kids ASAP, you're naive. Trapped players will have amazing options in the very near future. Let ECNL figure out how to make BY wacky's less insane about it and and they'll start rolling out the options. Hold tight....

Yes, by all means. Parents, ask for discounts (free club memberships), hotel rooms on travel, special attention from coaches, convos with college coaches, ability to play up. Milk it.

Yes they should
How about being on a trap team next fall while your teammates play HS and then in the fall playing on a team that doesn’t matter because they will be broken up. Talk about a wasted year

I will not be surprised if ECNL does SY in 25/26. The president already questioned the authority of the BY mandate. It is his league, and SY is good for the customers in his league. There is no point in wasting another year. Since US Soccer will remove the mandate in 26/27, I do not see why an individual league can not start first within its own ecosystem.

Because the way it rolls up to FIFA.

You can certainly make your own league and play by your own rules. But you won’t get sanctioned by USSF. And if you’re not sanctioned by the governing body, you’re not getting exposure to college coaches.

There are tons of Mexican leagues and adult leagues in the US that fall into that category.

So the non-USSF member NCAA would only scout USSF member leagues? Ridiculous. Colleges will scout wherever it's worth their time to scout. Even the USSF itself, for national teams, will scout wherever it's worth their time to scout.

This doesn't even matter though, as ECNL wouldn't lose it's USSF membership if it went against the BY mandate for its league play. The mandate is only for inter-league play. Bio-banding and trapped player exceptions are currently possible for intra-league play because each member has exclusive jurisdiction over its own "programs and activities" (leagues).

I'm not saying they will go against the mandate, but it's not because they can't, or that they will lose college scouts. They probably won't because it's a pain in the butt to be totally alone on this, and they don't want to start a war with USSF and other leagues.

Yes….college coaches are chasing prospects in the fragmented local Sunday leagues….

NCAA being self sanctioning for adults athletes is very different from a national pyramid that starts with junior athletes.

You know this.

College coaches need to win. They find players who can help them win.

ECNL is not going to send a life line for next years trapped players. They really don’t care. Tried to use their power to change things the way they wanted. It didn’t work. No change until maybe 2026 which US Club has not said they are changing anything yet.

Sorry Q3/4 parents you lost and your kid still has to be slightly above average.

This thread should give everyone full confidence that the poor youth soccer culture in this country won't be improving anytime soon.

I keep seeing this take and it’s so dumb. USSF already said anyone can change in 26/27 and ECNL USYS and AYSO already said they would change if they could. I think nothing at all will happen next year but I also think it’s delusional to think nothing changes in 26.

Neurotic parents focused on the wrong things and don't care enough to learn the right things.
Just want to have a say and be heard

We're sorry for your loss. I know its hard to imagine your Q1 kid not having an artificial advantage any longer, but we'll off the BY advice. Have them try harder. Get private coaching. RAE will be over in several years so don't worry about it. And if they are any good, college coaches will find them. lol.

Good luck in 26! I hope for your sake it isn't sooner.

previous poster clearly didn't read the release, much less the the writing on the wall from anyone who is associated with an ECNL club.

Denialism has become an epidemic in the US. Sad!

You're not even close but I guess that's an easy anecdote. The reality is you need to hate the game, not the players (or their parents). I didn't create this insane web of alphabet soup clubs nor the competitive structure we play in. I didn't create the best path to college recruiting, it was laid long before I got here. My daughter has a dream of playing college soccer. She's a very good 2013, playing up on NPL and Im figuring out what to do for next year. She trapped and its silly she doesn't have the option to play with her classmates but again, this is the game I was given. I'm not asking for change (somebody has to be impacted by RAE and my kid is good enough to overcome it) but if change is coming it's ideally this year. I'd hate for her to go ECNL and fall in love with a team for one season, only to switch everything around. My concern isn't making a team, its being on a top 10 national team and seeing it fall apart when we reshuffle.

Call me neurotic if its easier for you. Im doing what I can to learn this system and help my kid in every way possible for her future. I'd love a simpler, more easy going system but apprentely thats not an option in my area.
