The democratic sample ballot for Virginia was in my elementary student's folder

Well this is new lol! I was going through my child's take home folder last night & the democratic sample ballot was in there. I guess I can bring it with me on Election Day so that I know who NOT to vote for. The democrats were at back to school night last month too, aggressively shoving there ballots in everyone's faces as we tried to walk into the school. I guess they had so many left over and had the school stuff them into the students' folders. Did anyone else get a sample ballot in their kid's folder?

Are you saving your money for private in case your guy wins?

LOL. Based on the OP's grammar, I just hope she doesn't decide to homeschool.

Why wouldn't it be allowed?

Ever hear about civics? You know, teaching children about our government and elections? Or do you just vote for Putin’s b*tch?

Uncool. And I'm a dem.

OP - I believe this is the pertinent directive. It appears to me that this is a violation of this directive and should be reported to your school’s Assistant Superintendent.

Regulation 1367.3

VII. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS AND SUBMISSION PROCEDURES

A. All nonprofit organizations are eligible to submit fliers and other materials in accordance with these guidelines. Charitable solicitations, partisan political organizations, and commercial or profit-making enterprises are excluded, with the exception of school- business partnerships and events, jointly sponsored government-business activities, certain contests and competitions (see section IX.), and distributions on school grounds during nonschool hours (see section III.). With the exception of materials relating to school-business partnerships and events, jointly sponsored government-business activities, events on school grounds during nonschool hours, or contests, the materials may not contain names or logos of profit-making organizations.

D. To ensure that schools remain neutral, do not appear to approve or disapprove any particular religious or political viewpoint, and do not sponsor or endorse the classes or activities sponsored by any community organization, all nonschool and nongovernmental materials made available through the schools shall include the following disclaimer:
These materials are neither sponsored nor endorsed by the Fairfax County School Board, the Superintendent, or this school.
The same disclaimer shall be posted at the school location where such materials are available.

IX. NEWSLETTERS
D. Students shall not be asked or required to convey or deliver any materials (including PTA newsletters) that advocate the election or defeat of any candidate for elective office, that advocate the passage or defeat of any referendum question, or that advocate the passage or defeat of any matter pending before the Fairfax County School Board, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, the Virginia General Assembly, or the Congress of the United States.

IDK. If it merely stated these are the candidates and what a ballot looks like, it’s fine and educational. If it was “vote for these candidates” it was wrong.

My thinking is that if they included one ballot, and didn’t include the other, it was inferred that the school was supporting those candidates.

Eh. I'm a big fan of civic education and a BIG Democrat, but sample ballots are not meant to provide education on how voting works. They are meant to help voters choose "the party line" candidates, particularly in technically nonpartisan races like judicial races or on ballot initiatives.

Member of FCDC here. The R's attend Back to School Night also. I'm not a fan of the practice, but it has been going on for a long time and I am not going to be the one to stop it. So I just don't volunteer at BTSN.

Theoretically, the Rs and Ds come to their local BTSN with a document with a calendar on one side, and a list of people running in the upcoming election on the other. So its theoretically educational.

The reason you had no Rs at your BTSN this year is because the Ds are FIRED UP to volunteer anywhere they can. Even in parts of the county that are *very* red, that is the case.

Re: why something came home in your kid's folder, it was probably your teacher or room parent trying to be slick. I'd ask them about it.
