Likely IVF needed- currently on BCBS Fed Employee plan- what insurance should i switch to?

Live and work in DC- is there an insurance plan that you would recommend as I come to terms with the prospect of IVF early next year?

Thank you.

No Federal plans cover IVF at all. If your spouse has access to a private plan, I would look into that. Otherwise, start saving your money. And look into maxing out your FSA.

yes, previous poster is correct. All federal plans have gotten rid of IVF benefits. A few years ago several paid 50%.
It's a major bummer.

I'm in the exact same boat, OP. Planning to switch from DH's federal BCBS to my employers Carefirst plan which covers 50%

My husband and I are both federal employees and are permanently assigned to NY. I was about to switch to GHI during open season last year, but found out right we were going on a long term work detail to DC in 2017. GHI only has coverage in NY and NJ. It's absolute BS. My co-worker in NY switched from BCBS to GHI and got 3 rounds of banking embryos, meds, and FETs covered this year. INFURIATING!!! I'm sure GHI will get rid of the coverage eventually, too.

The only other option is, and this is if you're doing fertility with SG, is to see if SG will honor the Aetna rate for 2018. They did for 2017 and that saves you some money.

Thank you for replies. I don't have an FSA set up...guess that will be on my to do list during open season.

BCBS covers all diagnostic, so that's a small help.

If 2018 GHI still has coverage, I would return to NY and take advantage of it. That is hugely valuable.

Kaiser still has 50% IUI I believe? Have you already done 3 IUIs?

I was able to get the Aetna rate since I have Aetna and no insurance coverage . I was told it only applied to the single transfer. So with the discount it was $12,500 and that includes PGS.

Definitely do FSA. You and your husband can both sign up $2,600 each and that's $5,200!

To poster 14:14. We already signed up for shared risk at SG. It's SO much easier doing cycling here than in NY. I don't have to worry about traffic and my schedule is way more flexible down here. We lucked out, even with no coverage.

Has anyone looked at the plans in the Obamacare marketplace? Are us federal employees eligible? Figured I'd ask before I go down that rabbit tunnel.

Pushing this question back up. Both of us are federal employees and will begin infertility treatment this January. Any advice about best coverage for federal employees would be appreciated.
