Anyone go on babycenter?

I’ve lurked there a while in the forum with the same birth month, and I feel like an asshole for saying this, but they all seem so young and immature. It’s kind of interesting to see the difference between DC and the rest of the country this way (eg we’re asking about night nurses and private rooms and they’re splitting up from boyfriends and being laid off factory jobs). Makes me feel fortunate in many ways but kind of sad for some of the kids who are on that forum and face a tough road ahead.

Who cares. Everyone judges each other no matter where they are from. "Young and immature" you get that shit here. People trolling, snarky remarks, people bashing you because you breastfeed over 1 year, making jokes about how people use a cart cover and all other kind of shit.

Yeah, pretty much every baby forum and the due date groups on FB are like that. It’s horrible if you want real support and actually factual information, and not “vaccines cause autisms watch VAXXED!!!! Buy my essential oils instead #oilymom”

OP, you sound judgy (laid off from factory jobs = young and immature)? And so people here will probably pile on you, but I’m sure most of us agree. I can’t go on babycenter since it’s just too cringe-inducing.

And DCUM isn’t made of all DC people, not is it representative of all DC people. It just, to me, seems smarter — people tend to write with complete sentences and avoid hashtags and never use annoying phrases like ‘BD-ing’

OP, I understand what you're saying. BabyCenter is more representative of the "real America." Which can be a little scary...

That said, I love to lurk on those forums. For the TWW especially.

Omg yes. Sure, you sound judgy but I am too. I don’t go on babycenter but my period tracker app has a social tab and the discussions are quite different from here.

“What is your favorite baby Einstein? My 3 week old LOVES the Mozart one. Makes him so happy for hours a day! Love that my baby is learning music!”

My favorites are the baby names. The more unique the better. Why use Caroline why you can do Karaline?

I follow some things on Babycenter, but it is a less wealthy, less well-educated crowed than DCUM.

They are also *a lot* nicer and more supportive than the people here tend to be, IMO. Fewer trolls perhaps, since it's not anonymous.

Right, yes. DCUM is representative of DC, and Babycenter is representative of everyone else in the rest of the country. You sound like an idiot

I'm sure some of the people on that board would feel kind of judgmental about the fact that people on his board hire freaking night nurses rather than buck up and wake up with / take care of their own baby for a few months and just deal...like women have been doing forever. And that women on here wait until they are of very very advanced maternal age and far beyond the bounds of the fertile period intended by nature, then use drastic and invasive and unnatural measures to try and become pregnant. Not to mention the unabashed and vicious materialism and greed that is RAMPANT here. However, it's generally a pretty positive community, so I don't think it would be commented on openly. Maybe some people here could learn a real lesson from that

I checked out baby center when I was first pregnant, but I just couldn't deal with how uneducated everyone seemed. If OP is judgy, so am I.

+1. I'd rather be around mean, smart people than sweet, dumb people. I know enough of the latter in real life

(Plus, DCUM people can also be really kind and generous; I definitely got a lot of support when I posted about my miscarriage.)

In poor areas of the country, sadly, I think it's pretty spot on.
