Is that ED? Would love to know your stats.

Texas A&M has only 1 RD - none of the EA or ED drama.

GPA: 4.2, SAT 1500+ and National Merit I think its the national merit that got DC in - A&M looks at that and also has decent scholarships for NMFs.

how did they find out so soon? is it rolling?

Yes. " We make admission decisions on an ongoing basis throughout an admission cycle. ". Source: https://admissions.tamu.edu/apply/freshman

But DC heard within 3 weeks - so that was a surprise.

good luck to all!

St Andrews takes anybody from the USA who applies.

calling from 2005?

DP. Not everyone but it’s estimated to take 30-37% applying, which is a lot compared to the selectivity percentages of elite American schools

This discourse is everything that’s wrong with American college admissions. Once you decide that the quality of a school is determined by admissions rate, you then have to conclude that it’s “bad” to have a high but clear standard for admissions.

It also feels ignorant of how admissions are done at UK universities and globally, which as a general rule are much less holistic and much more minimum stats driven. They may be equally selective but they close the door to kids they aren’t going to admit prior to application, instead of after application.

Also congrats to the parent of St Andrews kid. That’s great!

The “discourse” is only a response to the person claiming St. Andrews takes everyone. That is all. Obviously you are the parent invested in getting your get into St. Andrews. Buckle up because you are going to get roughed up here. If you don’t like St. Andrews’ stats, then your kid shouldn’t go or you shouldn’t bother posting. The fact is St. Andrews loves full-pay Americans. One quarter of its student body is full pay Americans. It’s now expensive at $70k and it’s not considered elite. It takes 30% of applicants. It has 10 full-time recruiters working the private schools on the eastern seaboard who drum up interest in full-pay wealthy private school kids.

College counselor here. OK so much incorrect info above.
PP is wrong St Andrews costs significantly less than US schools-public and state. Tuition is about 30K with housing less or comparable to US schools. It is much less than out of State options at many state schools. St Andrews is HIGHLY competive for kids from the UK. Think Cornell/Dartmouth. Oxbridge is more comparable to HYPS. St Andrews does NOT have a 30 % acceptance rate, it's much lower than that. First of all, acceptance varies by major and you apply to your major. International Relations (public policy) is VERY hard with a low acceptance rate, while something like art history is easier. They do like their full pay US students, but you still need good grades and stats and to write clearly and convincingly about what you want to study. It's a great, pretegious, and less expensive option for the right kind of kid (adventerous, self-motivated) who is ready to study in the UK system (4 years at Scottish schols vs 3 years at British). Hope this helps.
